2024 Queensland State Election Coverage

He was big on austerity. Making huge cuts to the public service and selling off assets to pay off debt.

In the post covid era it may have been recieved differently… but back then it was unnecessarily cruel. And wasn’t part of his mandate.

Needless to say it was not popular. He lost 36 seats, including his own in 2015. The LNP only lost that election by 2 seats though - which under normal circumstances would be seen closely fought election.

I guess the thinking was make all the cuts in the first term, take a hit in the 2015 election but hang on to power because their lead was so big.

That arrogance proved fatal.

He was a good mayor. Awful premier.
People who lost their jobs and suffered under his one term are still scarred from that time.

Agreed but, you could probably get away with it these days. Redundancies are a fact of life.

And I think people are more open to taking redundancies and having a career break, change of career.

don’t the usually use a federal election as the next chance to update?

In 2022, they introduced a new package at the SA election (with the 2019 style titles), before the Federal Election.

TBH given Labor’s performance in QLD right now, I don’t reckon they don’t have to do anything to get people to vote for LNP.

Gee it’ll be balanced coverage with Paul Murray involved. Not.
And to think I used to like him when he appeared on Weekend Sunrise all those years ago.

Marlina’s interview with the premier and opposition leader were both fine. But interestingly tonight when David Crisafulli was asked about policies, a bird interrupted by making a sound, and they were distracted. They never came back to any policy substance.

The puff ‘get to know’ pieces from all networks are hardly journalism. It’s like the politician’s media adviser scripted it.

Maybe he looked better compared to Prue?

The one on 10 News First or Marlina’s one?

Marlina’s.

He was definitely moderate in his views and comments. Watching AOK bring Prue down week after week was classic. She always ended up looking like a fool for the rubbish she had said.
