Let the Paralympic countdown begin!
Near the end of Paris Olympic Games closing ceremony, after Thomas Bach declared the Games closed, and after he and Leon Marchand and six other athletes (including Australia’s Emma McKeon) blew out the Olympic flame from the miners lamp, there was a small handover ceremony, in which the French flag was passed to the representatives of the French Paralympic team.
Missed that X-rated action.
Australian swimmer Alexa Leary (who was a guest on The Cheap Seats back in June) is on the cover of Stellar magazine this Sunday.
Aussie tennis player Heath Davidson has withdrawn from the Paralympics with his mother admitted into palliative care.
Was a nice ceremony with clear weather and the Games going smoothly.
Australia’s Erik Horrie was elevated to bronze in the final of the men’s PR1 single sculls after Italian Giacomo Perini was disqualified for using a communication device, which may have been a mobile phone or a walky-talky.
What a comeback this morning in the 4x100 Medley relay - at the start of the last 100 meters, they were coming fourth, then Alexa Leary pushed through to be second at the start of the final 50 meters, before pushing that bit further to win another gold medal for Australia.
Olympic welcome home events will also double as welcome home events for the Paralympians.
Alexa Leary has broken her world record in the women’s 100m freestyle S9 with a sizzling time of 59.60 seconds.

GOLD!
It’s a second gold medal in Paris for Qian Yang with a dominant 3-0nwin in tonight’s singles final. Qian combined with Lina Lei earlier in the week to win the doubles title. pic.twitter.com/3S4MfDR7Ju
She’s already broken that record again (now 59.53) and won gold overnight.
