Obviously covid and cost a factor in not being on site in Birmingham but I also think the fact there isn’t really an “Olympic Park” style central hub in the city, or an internationally recognise landmark or skyline, itself is probably a factor too. The BBC has a studio in the city centre but it doesn’t really get a view that suggests it’s worth it, though last nights bull has now appeared in the street behind it, although only seen in the wide shots.

Looking at the reverse situation 4 years ago and the BBC had their main studio in Salford in the UK, but did present the overnight coverage in the Gold Coast - but most of it was just done from a beach which felt pretty cheap.

Turns out Alison Mitchell and Lisa Sthalekar are part of the world feed commentary team for women’s T20 cricket tournament at the Games, alongside former West Indies all-rounder Stacy Ann King and South African broadcaster Natalie Germanos.

The green and gold graphics above (3rd and 4th last images) is what Sunrise should be using as their background rather than the really dark orange they had yesterday.

2.30am – 3.30am AEST Abbey Holmes and Ryan Daniels

Then 3.30am AEST Emma Freedman and Matt Shirvington

Hopefully Birmingham officials (and Victoria in 2026 for that matter) will have learnt a lesson or two…

Great to hear the commentary duo Catherine Cox and Sue Gaudion reunited

Can’t help but think that viewers would rather have watched highlights of the Games at 10am this morning than a montage of this week’s The Morning Show episodes. Surely Seven could have sold enough sponsorship and advertising to make up for any lost revenue to make up for any loss from infomercials.

Same probably goes for Monday to Friday as well - seems like a lost opportunity to get some big morning numbers, unless they are planning to fill TMS with games highlights, but I don’t think that will be as attractive as a purely highlights show.

Some MS members should be happy, Seven have updated their graphics package, after criticism here for Tokyo and Beijing as it resembled Gold Coast 2018 almost identically. Could be thanks to different producers/team?

Nick Barrow (veteran Seven Sport EP - did many Australian Opens) oversaw the former two.

While Birmingham is being overseen by a different EP, Kirsty Bradmore.

On another note, 7mate kept going tonight (did so last night too) in Melbourne around 10:15pm (EPG schedule was 10:30pm) even though Hamish McLachlan and on-screen said to change channels to 7, so four channels were showing the same thing for about 20min. At the end of an ad break around 10:35, the playout centre Gelmi bumper came on and it went to Supercars highlights. This all seems rather unorganised, like programming, broadcast, AFL and Commonwealth Games units are all not communicating 100%.
