What happened to Chris from the WaveFM lineup?

From Radioinfo:

A new online website station will begin on the South Coast of NSW when Kiama Community Radio (KCR), begins in June.

The station has been launched by a group of locals in a bid to reconnect the local community at a time when many are feeling disconnected and isolated at home.

The new service will be dedicated to communities in the Kiama area from Minnamurra in the north to Gerroa in the south and Jamberoo in the west.

Can anyone confirm who is currently doing breakfast on i98FM?

According to their website, Lyndal Rogers is doing Mornings - so who is the female at breakfast right now?

Just noticed on their website that i98FM is now doing “90 Minutes of the 90s” at 4pm Sundays.

The last 90s-based program the station aired was “Nuthin’ but 90s”, which was presented by Tony M and was airing on Sunday afternoons in 2005-08. It was also heard on sister station C91.3 in Campbelltown on Saturday nights. It was replaced by HitStory, which broadened its music ‘look-back’ to include the 80s.

Rival station Wave FM has their 90s lunch hour at 12-1pm weekdays, which is also heard on Grant’s other similar-formatted stations.

Former Australian Idol winner, Damien Leith, is joining Wave FM breakfast from Monday 14th September, joining Jade & Straney. For the past 2 years, he had co-hosted breakfast at Power FM Muswellbrook.

Also, Lyndal Rogers has become a permanent presenter of i98 breakfast with Marty & Crammy, with Tyler Thompson taking over mornings.

Onya @Deano

I’m pleased that i98 FINALLY got around to officially announcing a permanent replacement on their brekkie show. It made sense, especially considering Lyndal had been covering the role for some time now.

Also interesting on their website i98 no longer mentions Carrie & Tommy at night. Have they dropped them?

No, it’s still mentioned on their website below “90 Minutes of the 90s”.

Wave FM has introduced a sports show on Saturday afternoons from 1pm called “The Sideline View”, presented by former Dragons player Jamie “Sowie” Soward & 2ST Shoalhaven breakfast presenter Stolzy.

The program will also be heard on 2ST in the Shoalhaven & Southern Highlands on the same timeslot.

Didn’t i98 have a Dragons Red V show hosted by Triple M’s Anthony Maroon?

There’s no mention about it on their website at present, so I’m guessing it has been dropped from the lineup.

Interestingly, given that Wave FM & 94.9 Power FM are on the same log on weekends (they’re on different logs from each other during weekdays), listeners who want to listen to Wave FM music on a Saturday afternoon without the sport talk in-between the songs can flick over to Power FM. This is due to the fact that the latter has quite a significant overspill into the Illawarra region, in which they transmit from the same tower as i98 & Wave at Knights Hill.

Yeah I am not sure globally if there are many music stations transmitting from the same tower with the same playlist.

I think Mt Dowe near Narrabri would come close, where GGG & NOW transmit from the same tower. Those two stations carry the same programming/playlist outside of local programming hours, as both are owned by BOG.

This means that a total of $17,215.425.02 has been donated in the event’s 16-year history.

I overheard a station ident on 94.9 Power FM this afternoon that went something along the lines of, “Power FM new music, from Albion Park to Nowra”. For a station that is officially licensed to serve the Southern Highlands and the Shoalhaven, I thought that was an interesting choice of locations to use. It’s something I would expect to hear on i98fm or Wave FM instead.

I can understand the point that Power FM would be trying to target Illawarra listeners since the signal overlaps into the region, but most of the area between Albion Park and Nowra isn’t even apart of the Shoalhaven. It would be like i98fm airing an ident that says “from Kogarah to Stanwell Park”. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, even though you can see the Knights Hill TX from Albion Park!

Yes you can, however it is only 1.5KW towards Albion Park so if you do go under the escarpment and with no LOS of the tower the multi path can be quite bad , the other fm’s from Knights Hill are fine.

Power Fm is licensed to broadcast in Kiama which also overlaps with the Wollongong LA. The 1.5KW beam ends just SE of Shoalharbour and then the 10KW beam covers Kiama, however the Wollongong commercial fm stations still spit out more power towards Kiama and Gerrigong then Power Fm, 20KW.
So I guess there is adequate signal for Power fm to claim Albion Park but certainly not Wollongong.

Power Fm would have had a better chance of targeting Illawarra listeners with their previous Hot AC / CHR format. They are now to close to the format of their sister station Wave fm. So there is not enough reason to listen to Power fm over Wave fm.

When you compare to the average suburban community station of 200 W that’s very powerful. Although the other FM stations may overload Power FM a bit.

Yeah, I was aware that Power FM is licensed to broadcast in the Kiama LGA as well. However, when you consider the fact that the station so heavily brands itself as being the “Shoalhaven & Highlands’ Best Music”, mentioning Albion Park in a station ID appears completely contradictory to the areas they are claiming to represent. It’s an awkward mix-match of branding as Power FM never claims Shellharbour and Kiama in any other context, despite technically being a local radio station in the latter.

I have not experienced any overload issues apart from some very minor spurs of i98 and Wave fm in the car park of the Illawarra Fly at Knights Hill, not over Power Fm.

Power Fm really starts to get very strong from Port Kembla south. It was pretty average in North Wollongong / Wollongong city the last time I was there. Knights Hill is only 35Km from Wollongong city but the escarpment in places shields the 1.5KW signal. The 40KW Wollongong commercial fm’s are fine.
In a perfect world it would be good if they could broadcast at 10KW towards Wollongong instead of the current 1.5Kw limit.
