Winning Arvo

Indeed they are instead of him.

Welcome to the first breaking news cut-in of the WA era.

We had a Interest Rate report interrupting Bridge of Lies, as @TV.Cynic stated, with Ann Sanders and Tim Lester from Canberra.

Except there’s a difference between rolling coverage of a big breaking story, and a simple introduction to Tim Lester. Surely, you would think, because he did stuff like it on Today, Alex is able to just do that if needed.

Also consider the time IR is announced is at the half-hour mark, which is directly part of the scheduled headline flash output.

It’s not like it was released 2.21pm.

Based on primerime viewership which midday certainly is not. Regardless, people probably had no idea it was on, which results in the poor number.

Seems like a waste of resources. Just use the people you already have in place for the afternoon news to deliver the little content Alex is being paid for.

Do we have morning television ratings between 6am and midday as a comparison?

How does Larry and Kylie rate vs Today Extra?

Some of these UK game shows might be suited to mornings, but then would you want your mornings massacred?

Posted nearly every day

See:

Also includes Sunrise and Early Sunrise etc

I also find it odd that they did not use Alex for the interest rates update. He is scheduled to be on air from 1pm until 4 for the updates. Why not use him for actual proper updates like this one today?

Also, as much as i hated reality shows being repeated on the main channel during the day, i am now reconsidering that. The Voice on Mondays, and MKR on Tues, Wed and Thurs. And have the various UK Game Shows + Alex Cullen on Fridays to make it more of special event of sorts.

Are the 1pm, 2pm, 3pm segments pre-recorded then?
If there isn’t any major breaking news story then we got to understand why?

It’s all very very weird from everything I’ve read.

They would not rate better. Yhey are filler at best. They should have done an afternoon chat/news program.

Maybe something like “The Arvo Convo”? A panel show with sofas and, if they so desire audience participation, a “your say” segment with QR codes and phone lines etc.

oh and newsbriefs maaybe every TOTH?

I still want clarification from Alex regarding his very specific comment literally a week before launch stating it was a 3pm show leading into the afternoon. How could things change so much in one week? What was this 3pm show he was referring to and was it better?

The longstanding rumor, from as far back as May if not further, was that it was a news program.

It basically would make a two-hour news block considering 4pm is still just that.

Apparently the “nannas, pensioners, stay-at-home mums” characterization didn’t go down well even internally. Hard to say if that was why the idea was canned.

But as we have evidently seen, the “evolution in afternoon television” was only planned for one week because the coin drop came in handy. Had it not existed, we probably would still be watching MKR encore.

Maybe the 3pm news show is planned for 2026? And this is filler until the end of the year.

Or, perhaps, this was the entire idea in the first place? It’s on at 3pm, it contains news, and I suppose you could say it’s a show. He literally said in that interview he was going to be the afternoon host on Channel Seven, taking us through the afternoon, and this, sadly, fits that bill.

Maybe this is why Winning Arvo’s coin drop game only lasted one week?

To think, this concept and 10 News+ will end up on the TV History page. But not for the right reasons. Maybe we should have an Australian TV flops page :full_moon_face:

The problem is, can they be “legally” flops as long as they continue airing.
