WIN News

Why does being an island mean you shouldn’t have to suffer from irrelevant news like many others? Launceston is a lot closer to Melbourne than Darwin is to Brisbane.

Darwin is a no brainer, but the differences between ACT and Tas aren’t as obvious. Similar population, statewide commercial markets, etc. Perhaps Tas’s isolation and the fact it isn’t surrounded by (or reliant on) a larger populous state does warrant more localised news options than the ACT.

Knowing the dominance of 7 Tasmania at 6, WIN having Tasmania news at 530 and ABC at 7 - for a market of 500,000 with an absolutely dominant rival (7) at 6 - I think running Melbourne news 6-7 on win Tasmania is a perfectly acceptable scenario

Spending money to go up against a dominant player at 6 in a small market is a losers game

I see it as the other way around, better someone gets more relevant news than no one.

Completely agree. WIN should keep its local bulletin at 5.30 where it can gain a local audience in Tasmania. There is no way WIN News in its current form and tight budget is going to be competitive against Southern Cross (7) at 6pm.

Moving production to Hobart or Launceston too would really help get back an audience. Hosted by Brent Costelloe who clearly isn’t going to move from Tasmania. Perhaps this could be back on the cards when Nine returns.

Yes it would be great to see, but I think we have to be realistic that’s not going to happen.

The Tasmania bulletin is clearly treated a bit different than other bulletins.

It’s the only one simulcast on radio too. On Christian radio in both Hobart and Launceston.

Good memory, that sounds pretty familiar now. The 5:30 bulletin didn’t really work down here but my gut feel is that we will get the local 5:30 bulletin and then the Nine Melbourne bulletin at 6. Maybe down the track if things look good something else might be attempted for a composite bulletin at 6 but I think they’ve tried so many different variations and that ship has sailed. Same with the relocation back to Tasmania, I can’t see that one happening again.
We are fortunate that we have a great commercial bulletin with 7 and if it wasn’t quite so good there probably would be an opportunity for two competing bulletins.

Hopefully cancelled.

I would expect no change, which is good for regional viewers, better than Tipping Point repeats.

With no defined regional segments or anything of local significance being shown to more than say 15% of the audience at any given time during the bulletin, I think I’d rather watch a Tipping Point repeat. Or better yet, a repeat of the prime time bulletin.

I think you’ll find there are lots of boats that take supplies TO Tasmania. The ACT is no more reliant on its neighbours than any other state. This is just nonsense.

Why do you want All Australian news cancelled?

Because for the most part, All Australian News is largely an irrelevant waste of airtime.

Sure it might be good for all those WIN News reporters who can say their packages have been on a “national” bulletin in their CVs, but that’s about it really.

Ideally All Australian News would have unique reporting on trying to tell local stories to a national audience - and cover markets not covered by a full local bulletin. Instead it seems to just be a mashup of reports from different regions, all copy-pasted into a ‘national’ bulletin.

Hard to see the point.

They have to broadcast it to meet requirements.

If that’s the case, then why don’t we see similar bulletins from Prime, SCA, NBN, etc.?!
