Some people in here have a few wires crossed and misinterpreting things.
WIN will have a VJ in major towns who will source and film material to be inserted into the statewide bulletin.
Canberra, Wollongong will have several journos with boots on the ground.
Orange, Wagga will see Canberra and Wollongong stories along with RVOs and reports from their area.
If it’s a true statewide bully, then I’d like to see occasional NBN News stories there as well.

Hey all, just saw the @JasonF & @Frankie posts regarding myself - what I was trying to say was we could see more genetic stories to fill time.
I didn’t say there wouldn’t be any local specific stories at all.
By “no local news” I was talking about local bulletins, not stories.
where was this said that they will only have VJ’s in those towns? I would hope WIN would still have full crews like it was when i worked for them, very sad if its only Vj’s.
Not too surprised - guess they’ll argue that they’re just replicating what the incumbant affiliate is doing at Nine and if SCA aren’t replicating what they were doing at Ten then that is their problem.
As an outsider though what I find shocking is how poor an online presence WIN seems to have. They could justify winding down the local bulletins if they were following their viewers online and offering the content there - but they seemingly have no WIN News site to speak of and no app. The days of television news organisations just delivering news on television is long gone for most organisations - but WIN seem well and truly stuck in the past.
Was gonna say the same thing. Why isn’t WIN News moving to a digital news organization. They need to be in that space to be growing née revenue streams to offset the decline in revenue from news broadcasts over the air. Journalists need to be filing for multiple formats: social online digital and on air.

I was speaking to a former 10 News First journo recently who was aghast at being told they would become a VJ. That person quickly found another job away from television.

Whilst it’s disappointing that separate regions will no longer have a dedicated bulletin, a statewide bulletin is better than nothing at all. Having lived in both regional WA and regional QLD, I was impressed with places like Cairns and Townsville having their own bulletin on both 7 and WIN and later 9.
In WA, the only statewide bulletin on GWN7 has been cut back gradually over the years. So much so that there’s no longer a reporter in the North West or Kalgoorlie. Camera operators in markets outside of Bunbury have also been let go. The studio has been downgraded to a tiny space in a sales office. I wouldn’t be surprised if the bulletin gets read from Seven Perth or axed entirely soon.
The reality is these businesses need to make a buck and local news is no longer the cash cow it once was. A state bulletin is better than nothing, especially when WIN has axed bulletins in SA and WA.
It will be sad to see WIN move to VJs, another thing good about WIN’s news has been their insistence on maintaining Camera Operators/Editors in their news gathering.

Wow…I’m a VJ myself and have been one for years. It’s not the end of the world and you can produce some fantastic content just by doing it youself.
What is a VJ and how do they differ to a journo? Are they cheaper? Have no degree?
Video Journalists are responsible for producing, shooting, editing and writing news. In other words they are a “one man/woman/gender fluid band” …
And I’m loving every moment of it!
They together with Mackay, Albury, and wide bay will have news services reinstated BUT they will be included in a statewide bulletin in the state the city is in
I’m not sure that will work. Also it could lead to a very unhappy NBN, WIN and NBN will always be seperate different markets with no connection between them apart from the 9 affiliate
I think if ANY “Local” bulletin is statewide, it should be 1 hour at least.
Not really accurate. They’ve shared vision and even reports, especially regional football games, in the past. I used to help do overnight bags with tape vision WIN would request in the mid 90s.
