On a Ten affiliation it isn’t. Being affiliated with a higher rating network changes those dynamics.
July 1 falls on a Friday. Would it matter if the new branding starts on a Friday or would they have to wait until the following Monday?
I’m 99% sure that any new branding would start on the day that they switch affiliations. I highly doubt that Ten would be happy to see their new regional affiliate initially using Nine-style branding and visa versa.
Yes, it would definitely matter. You can’t introduce new branding on a Friday!
I don’t see why not.
It is the 1st of a month.
So the new arrangements won’t start until Monday 27 June or Monday July 4?
What’s up Ryan?
That’s 2 “expressionless” emojis in a row from you?!
Don’t worry he’s probably just in shock at the news of the Nine-SCA affiliation deal.
That’s my “sarcasm not recognised” face
Illawarra, Canberra and Sunshine Coast would definitely have to be WIN’s largest broadcast areas.
Preferably, if they were going to keep any of the news services, I think the ones with a population of 200,000+ should be the ones that survive.
These are the populations for those markets, as well as for the QLD markets.
Canberra = 357,000
Sunshine Coast = 353,000
Illawarra = 283,000
Toowoomba/Darling Downs = 262,000
Cairns/FNQ = 224,000
Townsville/NQ = 218,000
Wide Bay = 181,000
Rockhampton/CQ = 178,000
Mackay/Whitsundays = 167,000
Here’s a little fact that should blow a few minds: Phase one of aggregation of television services commenced on a Friday. Not only did they flick the switch on a Friday in southern NSW, it was a Friday at the very end of March! I know! What the hell were they thinking making such a huge change at the end of a month AND on a Friday?
Gawd.
well, a lot of stations had started altering their schedules so that they were airing the majority of programs from their upcoming network partner sometime ahead of when aggregation actually commenced.
Yes. I know. I was there. Some people just keep missing the point.
I think the latest developments between nine and SCA has left some people confused and shocked.
what did I miss?
Yeah I thought that would be the case. I thought so!
Certainly within the industry… have to feel for employees of WIN.
As for the general public, I doubt many would realise what it really means yet.
I’m one who would usually say that branding changes to news services always happen on Mondays and that’s mostly true…
…but the situation that WIN and SCA are about to get into is quite possibly the biggest shake-up of regional TV since aggregation in the Late '80s/Early '90s and I will freely admit that we’ll most likely see major branding changes to WIN News (and indeed, the WIN/SCA stations in Regional QLD, Southern NSW/ACT and Victoria in general) on Friday July 1!
