If old mate flogging bibles by sending him an email pops up on Nine during the Olympics (like it did during Tokyo), that will be a fairly good indicator that rates are super low
I do know of someone who was offered some fairly tasty rates for Olympic advertising that they had to turn down because they had nothing to advertise
Reportedly the article says he is stepping back from day to day operations but is still “the ultimate decision maker”
Presumably if Bruce owns a 25% share in Nine after selling NRN to Paramount, could he eventually use his power to merge WIN with Nine by making Nine buying WIN and Bruce’s WIN shares turned into Nine shares?
The billionaire Rich Lister is close to offloading a NSW TV station that prevents him from wielding a larger voting stake in Nine.
The Financial Review Rich Lister is now looking to sell Northern Rivers Television, or NRN, to Network Ten
But I guess there is a chance talks could fall through and he sells it to someone else instead, I cannot see him holding onto it for much longer as he wants to get a larger stake of Nine but NRN is stopping him.
It is strange to think soon NNSW could be the first market to have all stations O&O, and the WIN Nine stations could soon be O&O if Bruce decides to merge WIN into Nine for extra stock.
Doesn’t C91.3 have that same issue? Campbelltown RA1 is nearly a complete overlap with Sydney RA1 where Nine have two stations.
There was the talk years ago when WIN were buying NRN in the first place about how it nearly was basically a NRN for i98 swap, but obviously C91.3 never entered the picture because SCA couldn’t buy it because of their two Sydney radio stations.
Hard to think what operator could buy it, given how nearly all the obvious buyers can’t own it.
Could this mean that these following Nine-affiliated stations would finally become available on 9Now at some point? I mean, not right now but maybe in stages starting in 2026, hopefully. NOTE: This list excludes the Northern NSW stations and the SCA stations.
If I’ve missed any stations in the process, please let me know and I’ll add them. I’ve excluded the 7 Griffith and Mount Gambier stations because maybe Seven West Media might perhaps purchase those stations, I guess?
New South Wales
9 Wollongong
9 Canberra
9 Dubbo
9 Orange
9 Griffith
9 Wagga Wagga
9 Albury
Yeah 7 South East SA and 7 Riverland are both relays of Seven Adelaide
Also has anyone heard of WIN Mount Gambier and even before that Channel 8 like they used to have hundreds of local ads and local news and local stuff which I like because I seriously don’t care too much about the metro tv shit but metro tv in Darwin is ok
SES-8 Mount Gambier - here’s 2 commercial compilations from 1997 courtesy of adelaidecrowsrdabest on YouTube. A mix of metro TV ads blended in with plenty of local ads. Enjoy.
And maybe WIN should start uploading their bulletins to wintv.com.au. Seven are already uploading their Regional NSW bulletins to 7plus, so I don’t see why WIN can’t do the same.
Grant would be interesting - sitting on just the Geelong stations is a bit strange so I suppose it wouldn’t be too weird to start building out a network again. I suppose out of those options they’d have the most cash - I’d have to think Ace is angling to get bought more than they’d want to buy more stations…
It’s weird there hasn’t seemingly been any discussion of this as an issue - I suppose there’s actual demand for FM stations out there, so it wouldn’t be too hard to sell once the trigger event actually happens, unlike Ten affiliates, which you basically can’t give away…
