Why would you want viewers to go ‘Back to the future’ in 2025? Yes, it’s bad for local advertising to have vast as a normal option for viewers, but all the networks is better than one. And vast is basically all government funded at this point. 10 central literally only runs csas so WIN doesn’t really have competition like you’re saying.
I was referring to their sponsor billboards, Advertise With Us spots (which are coming from Wollongong and screened across the entire WIN Network), and perhaps yes, the WIN News studio (which is in Wollongong).
They originated in Wollongong NSW.
We’re all nerds here, we know where these regional news bulletins are coming out of.
Exactly. What does WIN want to do, turn South East SA into NRL heartland? I’m perfectly fine with Griffith becoming an NRL region given it’s in NSW, but taking away AFL in South East SA?
That will definitely sound off some alarm bells at Kayo who will probably soon start booking ad space for South East SA viewers on WIN9 and WIN10 to subscribe and watch Fox Sports, and to tout themselves as “The exclusive AFL broadcaster in South East SA - Watch LIVE on Fox Sports.” Kayo’s gonna try and get people on board to their subscription service.
Do Nine and 10 in those areas even still have local ads? Or are both just the dirty Adelaide feed?
10 Central being a joint venture has its days numbers and Imparjas future is not as certain as Seven Central so not only is it pointless to introduce to this markets but would compete with the local station and could cost local jobs in these monopoly markets.
10 central and imparja seem to get just enough government funding to keep the clock ticking as it is now. 7 central is owned by 7 now. And I would assume that there not many jobs right now at WIN SA considering that playout is at mediahub and that there is no local news.
Yes they still do (Griffith included). It’s only the Seven signal that’s now a dirty capital city feed full-time. WIN ended their advertising agreement with the Seven Network at the end of June 2024. It appears WIN is trying to drive all advertising revenue over to their main affiliate i.e Nine. Might not be too long now and the 10 signal in South East SA and Griffith could soon lose local ads and then be potentially shut down.
Then in this case shut down 10 Central (if they’re just running CSAs only, did they really stop accepting local advertising all of a sudden?) and change the 10 feed over to whatever’s the nearest capital city station. It wouldn’t hurt to show the metro relays on VAST, at least for 10. That or show whatever’s the closest regional Network 10 O&O station.
As for Imparja, I say keep it mainly to Alice Springs and Alice Springs only. Instead, broadcast whatever’s the closest metropolitan capital city Channel 9 signal on VAST everywhere else. Again, wouldn’t hurt to do so.
Just drive all Remote Central and Eastern Australian advertising revenue over to SWM. Their future is as bright as ever now that it’s out of the hands of SCA and in the hands of Seven, and there will be noodle updates for those who want them.
Again, have local feeds for 7 Central retained (no change except for new ownership of course), have Imparja go back to broadcasting to Alice Springs only, and 10 Central just shut down altogether. Makes total sense, right?
Give it some time and all of these stations will cease to exist by the end of this decade. Being joint venture stations, I can see Seven saying they’ll happily continue running the station, but WIN will say the station is financially unprofitable and that it’s running at a loss. Thus, it’s WIN that makes the call.
Umm.. people don’t want to advertise on 10 Central. It’s been flooded with CSAs for years.
??? Imparja pump out the same content as metro
What local advertising? The viewing area of vast central/south channels is most of Australia. Not very local if you ask me. And as @xyz223 said, they’ve been running only csas for years.
This is basically what 10 Central already is. Central North (QLD/NT) gets the Brisbane feed including DST and Central South (NSW/VIC/TAS/SA) gets the Sydney feed.
With a population of barely 33k people, shrinking Imparja down to cover Alice only will be a surefire way to ensure their permanent death. slow clap

A post was merged into an existing topic: Imparja Television
This would be a factually incorrect claim as viewers can still watch 7 coverage on 7plus.
I’ve just a had a thought…
Back when equalisation/aggregation was being discussed, they didn’t want the markets to merge. They wanted the monopoly maintained with supplementary services run by them. This included some stations that are now part of the aging WIN gorilla.
Now some areas have that monopoly, still, yet they don’t want it.
Go figure.
What should’ve happened was the capital cities installed relays of their stations into regional and remote areas, and 1 regional station kept local programming. Viewers would’ve then had a real choice, and we would’ve still had local programming.
However, because of this mandated aggregation that was forced upon by Bob Hawke that choice is nowhere to be found now. If you want capital city channels for programming from there and regional channels for local programming, that’s not possible. The only difference between the metro and regional channels these days is the advertising.
Even the local news in certain regions is being shrunk into statewide bulletins.
So - four stations in a regional market? That would have never worked.
Directly bringing in cap city stations would’ve been contested too - if you had a 2+1 model, 2 being the relays and 1 being the local station, someone would’ve raised hell about their ad rev being eaten into.
Equalisation would’ve been brought in eventually by either side, but the way it was done, and the way it’s been regulated has been a shit show. It’s led to situations like this.
You may as well expand the RCEA market to include all of SA outside of Adelaide at this rate.
Either tell WIN to deal with Seven, or punish them all - remove the anti-siphoning list and remove their demands to have their apps pushed to the front of smart TVs. And make the AFL intervene as well. I think push has come to having a boot jammed up their freckle.
This is most likely because WIN control such things as maintenance of Infrastructure & playout like they did with Mildura.
All is not lost In markets like Griffith or Mt Gambier If viewers get the right antenna setup they could get 7 from Wagga & those In the South East could receive 7 from Western Victoria.
Under normal conditions Mount Gambier residents can get 7 Western Victoria but Griffith residents cannot pick up 7 Wagga Wagga regardless of how good the antenna setup is unless there’s intense ducting.
The mySwitch coverage predictor proves it. Even for towns within the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area that can pick up Wagga Wagga transmissions you’re more likely than not to have difficulties with reception and would probs likely be wiped out by the local Griffith channels given the co-channeling, although Channel 7 from Wagga is now a possibility with the Seven Network service in Griffith shutting down.
To have 100% (or as close to that) reliable reception of 7 Wagga Wagga in those very few Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area towns you will need an extremely powerful UHF antenna with a very tall mast on your roof, and a very powerful amplifier at full power. Again, without intense ducting, reception of the Wagga Wagga transmissions into Griffith itself is not possible.
Transmitter is selected to SW Slopes/E Riverina servicing Wagga Wagga with the map showing the wider Griffith area to demonstrate.
