Why Are You Like This

In the upcoming 2021 series Why Are You Like This, join two best friends as they navigate Melbourne in their 20s. Created by the very clever Naomi Higgins, Humyara Mahbub and Mark Samual Bonanno.

Created and written by Naomi Higgins , Humyara Mahbub and Aunty Donna ’s Mark Samual Bonanno, Why Are You Like This follows best friends Mia and Penny as they navigate their 20s in Melbourne, along with Penny’s dramatic and aloof housemate, Austin. Guided by their own modern day moral code, they confront complex social issues in an outrage driven world, leaving a path of destruction in their wake. Why Are You Like This explores the grey areas a lot of us are afraid to traverse, in a world determined to see things as black and white.

Creator and star of the pilot, Naomi Higgins said, “We’re so grateful to Screen Australia and ABC’s Fresh Blood program for this opportunity to tell the stories of entitled diverse idiots. This is a dream come true and we can’t wait to make this show!”

The series is a CKOL production and will be directed by Jessie Oldfield and Adam Murfet with Sarah Freeman producing. Niki Aken whose credits include The Hunting for SBS and Janet King for the ABC, is on board as script producer. The ABC’s Nick Hayden and Rick Kalowski, with Jessie Oldfield, Adam Murfet and Amanda Higgs will serve as executive producers. The series will go into production in March 2020.

Online Investment Manager Lee Naimo said, “ Why Are You Like This impressed us with its tone and execution. The pilot was witty, topical and a great reflection of issues many young people are navigating in the world today. We’re committed to supporting original and innovative content, and I can’t wait to see this team build on the pilot and take this narrative comedy to series.”

ABC’s Head Of Entertainment and Factual Josie Mason-Campbell , said, “This is a fantastic new show from a new team of incredible young creatives that will surely make waves. We are delighted to be taking Why Are You Like This to series.”

Most references to Why Are You Like This omit a question mark from the title.

Weirdly, they deleted the tweet that had the question mark in the title and replaced it with this one.

Even the official info from ABC is confused with a “?” in the title but not description.

Did the pilot episode in the anthology series have the question mark in it?

ETA: I just watched the first four minutes of it and it looks like it didn’t have the question mark in the title. Need to get the punctuation police on the case. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Sounds like it was written by an auto generator based on buzzwords

Why put it on ABC TV Plus when they have hardly enough content to fill all the ABC timeslots throughout the year?

C21 reports Netflix will stream the comedy worldwide later this year.

ABC aren’t programming 9.30pm anymore so probably isn’t room between 8-9.30.

I bet it will be repeated on ABC TV eventually like they did with Superwog and other comedy series. I think every new series should run on ABC TV before it screens on a multichannel.

Why Are You Like This? is repeated on ABC TV the next night Wednesday 17 February at 9:30pm

That’s good but seems strange to me. They should do ABC TV first then repeat on ABC TV Plus.

Really enjoying this show.

I didn’t think too much of the first episode but there are a couple later that are a bit more traditionally scripted and have more of a plot  that I preferred and they were extremely good.
