Seven won its seventh straight weekly ratings with a four-point margin over Nine. However, with both Seven and Nine dropping by two from week 39 that saw ABC up two and 10 up one, both to their highest shares since week 25, while SBS improved to a six-week high. Nine won the key demos.
That sees Seven on 21 weeks won from a possible 40 of the survey weeks. The total people contest is still very close with Seven edging slightly ahead so that either network could win. In the keys demos, Nine has been consistently ahead from the first week of the survey. And cemented by the Olympics, it seems Nine has an insurmountable lead in 25-54 plus 16-39 this year.
It was a rare week with no major sport featuring in the top rankings that saw Seven News Sunday in number one place with The Block’s Sunday episode in second. All episodes of The Block made the top 10 while The Voice was sixth with My Kitchen Rules 13th and 14th.
The Block also dominated the 25-54 demo ranking in the first four places while seven of 10’s programs made the top 30 as well in that demo.
Home and Away was the top drama with 10’s best Have You Been Paying Attention? 23rd. Four Corners out-performed 60 Minutes and 7News Spotlight with Australian Story even higher to make the top 20 along with 7.30. The Great Outdoors returned and did well to just make the top 30.
Tipping Point continued to outrate The Chase, making the top 30 this week.
The Block also topped the VPM chart with Return to Paradise fifth ahead of My Kitchen Rules and The Voice.
Multiple movies ranking in Seven’s Top 30, like we’re back in the 2000s.
It’d be a major upset if Nine lost 2024 with the Olympics, perhaps showing the lower audiences compared to Tokyo and others, despite huge shares, but also Seven’s weekly depth across the rest of the year particularly Wednesdays-Saturdays and especially the latter two days of the weeks with AFL. Although London 2012 saw Seven win, but not sure if Olympics were excluded from that.
Isn’t Channel 9’s main problem their weak performance in Perth and Adelaide, which is lowering their overall national share? If they’ve dominated the East Coast, I imagine they’d still be quite satisfied.

Please note: The report includes BVOD live minutes only and is not restricted to the five metropolitan cities. When broadcasters upgrade their video players, player measurement SDKs may take time to reach consumer devices (consumers need to update their apps) and may temporarily result in under-reporting a broadcaster’s video player figures.
