Nine scores a very rare +50% network share the highest recorded so far this year and the highest since the 2022 Australian Open final.

For The State of Origin Game One, the headline result was a linear TV audience of just under the 2 million metro viewer mark. The number will go up once 9Now viewers are add in… It is the biggest audience for a program this year.

It compares to 1,771,000 for game one of 2022 and 1,911,000 in 2021 and is the highest since 2019. Nine’s share last year for game one was 47.6%. The pre-game segment had just under 1 million watching while the post-game (and Nine News Late) will likely be adjusted for overruns.

There were more viewers in all markets compared to last year. The pre-game program was on par with last year’s number of 983,000.

Earlier, Seven News did well though Nine in Brisbane posted its biggest audience of the year thanks in part to a big 6.30 segment with viewers tuning in for the SOO that followed. It was higher that the audience on Nine in Sydney with Brisbane just beating the Sydney bulletin across the hour.

As expected, most other programs lost audience week on week including the top two entertainment shows of prime time Home and Away and Hard Quiz. MasterChef bucked the trend and managed to pick up audience, up 35k on the previous Wednesday. Later The Weekly was the top entertainment offering for its time slot.

After Nine, Seven ranked second with 10 third. 10 was however second in all key demos.

9 to win this week? Because that is a massive share

SOO was the equal most-watched program in Adelaide last night alongside Seven News. The 15-minute blackout (due to SA government’s ban on screening betting odds between 4pm and 7.30pm) didn’t seem to have affected ratings for the pre-match segment in the city.

Wow! That’s a HUGE share and great result for SOO. Nine would be thrilled.

Fascinating that Masterchef bucked the trend and went up lol

It looks like Fox’s build-up and post/game shows did well despite not having the coverage themselves.

I think this would have to be Nine’s first in survey (got it during the 2020 and 2022 Australian Open’s) 50% or greater share since the 2012 Olympics.
I’m pretty sure Nine never got a 50% or greater share on a State of Origin (or even NRL Grand Final) night before. This is probably due to the pulling power of Seven News and Home and Away, plus Seven normally sticking with House Rules in the past (but only in the AFL markets), and 10 sticking with MasterChef (and even Offspring). I had a look on the night of State of Origin Game 3, which was the same night the Ashes started on 9Gem, which was a 46.7% share.

The 2015 Cricket World Final was during the Easter non-ratings period, but even then it was 47.3%

Wow! Great result for 9 & SOO.

Their post game coverage could be considered better than Nine’. Showing the coaches’ media conferences and little to no ad breaks.

Was going to ask/mention the same. I wondered if Nine had ever achieved it before? But couldn’t remember London 2012 and forgot about the tennis.

Seven have done it multiple times, even in the past 6 or so years from various events.

Nine’s biggest win was in Brisbane with a near 70% share - 59 points clear of second placed Seven that just made it to double figures.
Nine won all other markets as well; Sydney by 48, Melbourne by 12, Adelaide by 10 and Perth by 2.
No surprise that Nine won the key demos with 10 second.
Some demo shares for Nine were +80% in NRL markets.

Nine’s biggest share since the night of the 2015 ODI WC final

Where does that come from?

I’m going to assume that it’s going to be very difficult for 7 to overtake even with 3 days left & 2 nights of AFL

Indeed they did:

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any individual night ratings on TVT, because there were no ratings reports, and the OzTAM reports are now gone.
That was the only night I’m certain Nine got over 50%. Pretty sure they didn’t for the rest of the games, probably due to Seven News and Today Tonight in Adelaide and Perth propping up Seven’s share (Seven still defeated Nine News during the games, and ACA didn’t share in those cities), plus they stuck with some regular programs like Sunday Night, Better Homes and Gardens and Winners and Losers, plus their AFL commitments. Ten was somewhat competitive as well, due to MasterChef All Stars.

Melbourne 2006 surely?

Also pretty sure, at least OzTAM era, until the 2021 and 2020 (and maybe 2016) AFL Grand Finals, those Comm Games on Nine held the record audience for the Melbourne market or maybe still do, high 1m?
