On a night where ABC was ahead in the post 7.30 timeslots, Seven won its first Wednesday in eleven weeks with a two point win over Nine. That was a three-point improvement on the previous week as Nine’s schedule dropped without Married at First Sight, down almost 10 points. ABC and SBS also made gains but 10 didn’t benefit from the lessening in competition. For ABC it was its best Wednesday result of the year.

Seven News had to do some heavy lifting for its network and with its highest rated Wednesday bulletin of the year, it got Seven off to a good start in primetime. That followed The Chase posting one of its biggest audiences of the year at 5pm and 5.30pm. Home and Away then made the top 10. At 7.30 We Interrupt This Broadcast was on par with its usual Tuesday results for its first Wednesday episode still landing fourth in its timeslot. Front Bar then did well to reach a season high of 350k in preliminary numbers with 200k in Melbourne…

For Nine, News and A Current Affair were the highlights with the 7.30 spot for the Under Investigation season final up 50k from last week but below its season average despite the earlier timeslot. A new episode of Million Dollar Murders popped up on Nine later with 242k.

For ABC, Hard Quiz was the top entertainment show of the night with a season high 542,000. That followed 7.30 that also won its timeslot while The Weekly that followed got a small boost that was big enough to push the show to a season high.

Meanwhile The Dog House on 10 was up slightly on the previous week but otherwise on par with its Wednesday audience this year.

The debut of Alone did well for SBS with the main channel up almost 3 points. The double episode was coded as one.

In the key demo of 25-54 Home and Away was the surprise top offering ranking 6th just ahead of The Weekly and Hard Quiz.

On Foxtel, Gogglebox had its best audience since the launch of the season while Selling Houses Australia was also up.

SBS made gains, thanks to Alone Australia’s double episode premiere.

We Interrupt This Broadcast didnt do much wonders foe Seven.

Seven won the night thanks mainly to news and The Front Bar (especially in Melbourne).

The debut of Alone Australia rated well (and will be SBS’s top program of the week). Hopefully there will be an uplift in 7-time timeshifting.

Poor old Project beaten by The Drum again.

10 News First under 200k and still losing at least 30% of viewers after 6pm. Nothing ever changes.

It’s Wednesday night and the 7PM Project isn’t even in the Top 20?

I know the excuse for Thursday night is that the NRL is on, and the excuse for Friday night is that young people like to go out.

But what is the excuse for the poor performance on a Wednesday night?

Oh, I know.

A Current Affair is on.

  • 9Gem was the No.1 multi-channel with Total People
  • Channel 9 took out the top 3 live streamed programs yesterday against all broadcasters, with Nine News 6:30, Nine News and A Current Affair
  • Under Investigation was a timeslot winner with Total People in Brisbane
  • Under Investigation recorded a Live + VOD BVOD Audience of 32,000 (+89% on last season)
  • A Current Affair was a timeslot winner with Total People across the 5 City, East Coast and in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane

  • 9News was the No.1 program with Total People in Sydney
  • TODAY was the preferred breakfast program with all key demos and Total People across the East Coast and in Sydney
  • TODAY Extra was the winning morning show with Total People across the East Coast and in Sydney and Brisbane

From 10:

Network 10 (10 + 10 Bold + 10 Peach + 10 Shake):

The Dog House Australia:

  • Highest under 50s share of the season.
  • Up 16% in 16 to 39s week-on-week and 11% in under 50s.

Must be its lead in…the very low rating news.
Nevermind, maybe more news will help the channel and be the answer.

I’d like a gameshow and Neighbours at 6pm but that’s just me haha.

I still think Pointless would have done fine on Ten if they hadn’t stripped it back to the half-hour format that made it feel incrsdibly rushed.

Not something you’d hear often nowadays.

The Front Bar is pulling its weight for Seven and they need to preserve it for as long as they can. Nine crashes without MAFS even though Under Investigation beats We Interrupt No one’s Broadcast.

Impressive, also being on a Wednesday and no good lead-in, No. 1 non-news show in Melbourne and could be one of the markets best of the week (save for adjustments) after Married and AFL.

where?

According to TV Tonight, The Project 6:30 was beaten by The Drum

I’m pretty sure The Drum beating The Project was unheard of until this year. It happened a few times now.

Mod edit: can’t post figures outside top 20

But isnt the drum figure for the actual hour though.
The drum wouldve been ahead of the 6pm hour on 10 but that doesnt necessarily mean the 6:30 portion was ahead of the project.

a very slim margin but it’s not really a like-for-like comparison given The Project is for 6.30-7 while The Drum is 6.00-7.00. For all we know The Drum drops below The Project in that 6.30 half hour?

True, but like The Project, The Drum has no lead-in but a decent lead-out. I reckon some of the 565k tuning into ABC News would be tuning in towards the end of The Drum, so if they ever split the ratings, the 6:30pm potion of The Drum probably rates better.

You’re probably right, and i agree but it’s still a guess for us without the actual figures.

For example in that same hour we often see the news drop at 6:30 on 7 and 9 with the first half hour being the stronger portion.
