SAS: Australia v England got off to a slow start averaging 522k for its new season on Seven. That landed the show a distant fourth in its time slot. It compared to the previous season that had a 712k national audience in October 2023 (under a different ratings system).

Over on Nine, Events That Changed Australia continued with a look at The Birth Of The Bogan with an average rating of 703k, up almost 70k from the last episode.

The second MasterChef Australia elimination of the week on 10 had 669k. That saw all the commercials outperformed by ABC’s 7.30 that had 877k.

It was a big night for ABC with Gruen’s 18th season at 8pm that debuted to 718k compared to 720k for season 17’s opening episode. That meant that ABC won the hour from 7.30 – 8.30pm.

Following, Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont Spelling Bee season 3 got off to a good start with 494k, after season two opened to 500k. That was followed by the debut of the new sketch comedy Urzila with 360k tuning in.

On the commercials, The Front Bar with 568k built on its lead in and was up 60k week-on-week. Outback Murder Highway, however, was down 45k to 483k while Elsbeth with 202k made the top 30 for the first time since January. Later, Unfiltered had 324k in preliminary numbers.

News bulletins again were the night’s top performers with Seven News at 6pm on 1.452m ahead of Nine’s bulletin with 1.290m.

A Current Affair won at 7pm topping one million with Home and away (986k) ahead of ABC News with 974k. Millionaire Hot Seat made the top 30 for the third consecutive night.

Earlier Tipping Point won at 5pm with 842k to lead The Chase that continued to have a good week averaging 736k.

At breakfast, Sunrise surged to 464k leaving Today with just 318k and News Breakfast on 264k.

9NEWS DOMINATES WEDNESDAY VIEWING ACROSS THE 5 CITY METRO WITH ALL KEY DEMOS & TOTAL PEOPLE

  • 9News was the No. 1 program of the night with Total People and all key demographics across the 5 City Metro and in Sydney. It was also the No.1 program of the night with Total People and People 25-54 in Melbourne, Total People in Brisbane and People 25-54 in Adelaide. The combined national bulletins registered a National Total TV Reach of 2.023 million and a Total TV National Audience of 1.290 million . On 9Now, its BVOD audience of 208,000 was up an impressive 71.9% year-on-year.

  • A Current Affair won the 7.00pm timeslot with Total People across Australia and in Brisbane and Adelaide. It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 1.478 million and a Total TV National Audience of 1.016 million . On 9Now, it recorded a BVOD audience of 153,000 , up 71.9% on the same night last year.

  • Events that Changed Australia dominated the 7.30pm across Australia with People 16-39. It secured a National Total TV Reach of 1.469 million and a Total TV National Audience of 703,000 . It secured a BVOD audience of 108,000 .

  • Outback Murder Highway dominated its timeslot in Brisbane with Total People and all key demos People 16-39 in Brisbane. It recorded a National Total TV Reach of 985,000 and a Total TV National Audience of 483,000 . It secured a BVOD audience of 63,000 .

  • Tipping Point Australia was the No. 1 afternoon game show with Total People and all key demographics across Australia and in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. It secured a National Total TV Reach of 1.561 million and a Total TV National Audience of 842,000. It secured a BVOD audience of 124,000 , lifting the timeslot by 77.1% compared to the same day last year.

  • Today was the No.1 breakfast program with Total People and all key demographics in Brisbane. It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 770,000 , a Total TV National Audience of 316,000 and BVOD audience of 63,000 , up a significant 46.5% on the same morning last year.

Seven mucked up the scheduling for SAS and My Reno Rules. So they let an average show like Events That Changed Australia do well and both Seven shows flopped. They should swap these between Tuesday and Wednesday.
