Nine had a narrow (less than one point) win last night as ABC had its second-highest Wednesday share of the year while 10 was at a 5-week low.
ABC’s Hard Quiz was prime time’s top rated entertainment program. It was just ahead of Nine’s Taronga Who’s Who In The Zoo that averaged over 600k for the first time this season, up 40k on the previous week. That was well clear of Seven’s Beat The Chaser that average 460k and Shark Tank that failed to get a boost for its season final that had 279k.
Later, Question Everything was at a three-week high, lifting to over 500k and ahead of Budget Battlers that was steady with 460k. Seven’s movie Fury had 223k just ahead of NCIS on 10 with 215k, small improvement on recent results.
Nine News was a 16k national win at 6pm. That followed Tipping Point winning at 5pm by +160k. Nine’s Afternoon News was 175k ahead of Seven’s listing though it may have been impacted by the Women’s ODI. The 7Mate rating for that was 233k.
9News was the No.1 program of the night with Total People across Australia and in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. It recorded a National Total TV Reach of 1.765 million and a Total TV National Audience of 1.106 million - up 14.8% on the same night last year. On 9Now, its BVOD audience of 78,000 was up an impressive 47.2% year-on-year.
In Sydney, the bulletin was 69,000 viewers ahead of its nearest competitor.
In Melbourne, the bulletin was 61,000 viewers ahead of its nearest competitor.
In Brisbane, the bulletin was 45,000 viewers ahead of its nearest competitor.
Taronga: Who’s Who In The Zoo dominated its timeslot with People 25-54 across Australia and in Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide. It registered a National Total TV Reach of 1.285 million and a Total TV National Audience of 614,000. On 9Now it recorded a BVOD audience of 41,000 - up 36.7% year-on-year.
Budget Battlers was the program of choice with Total People in Sydney and Brisbane. It secured a National total TV Reach of 1.006 million and a Total TV National Audience of 451,000 and on 9Now, its BVOD audience was 29,000.
A Current Affair dominated the 7.00pm timeslot with Total People across Australia and in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. It registered a National Total TV Reach of 1.388 million and a Total TV National Audience of 898,000. On 9Now, its BVOD audience was 63,000, up 34.0% year-on-year.
Tipping Point was the No. 1 afternoon game show with Total People across Australia, winning in all five metro markets. It secured a National Total TV Reach of 1.190 million and a Total TV National Audience of 646,000, lifting the timeslot by 55.1% when compared to the same day last year.
Love Island Australia secured a BVOD audience of 190,000, a National Total TV Reach of 386,000 and a Total TV National Audience of 234,000.
Today was the No.1 breakfast program with Total People in Melbourne and Brisbane. It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 753,000 and a Total TV National Audience of 310,000. Its BVOD audience was 35,000 - up 12.9% on the same morning last year.
The 9Network was the No. 1 Network across the 5 City Metro with Total People and all key demographics.
9Now was the No.1 CFTA BVOD platform with Total People and all key demographics.
Nine News’ fourth-straight metro win. Alarmingly low audience in Sydney for Seven with the dual anchor experiment a failure.
Tipping Point wins all markets.

Note that these are broadcast TV numbers. That may sometimes lead to PR releases seeming to differ as to which program won a market if the network is using Total TV numbers that included live BVOD.
Another third place for Seven in Sydney - flow through effect from news?
Yet - it is so predictable. All the changes that has been made are slowly accumulating into these shocking numbers.
The latest to run a national 4pm bulletin that loses by 175k. In the metro markets the margin at 4pm saw Nine double Seven with 264,000 to 126,000. In Brisbane the 4pm news ranked 7th for Nine - 34th for Seven. Nine News even won in Perth and the regionals at 4pm.
How come all of a sudden Channel 9 News is Winning & 7 News is dropping, losing quickly??
What has happened, why is this?? Is it because people are just sick and tired, have realised their News Is bad & that 9News is the Better, Real & Professional News!?
As noted across the forum this year Nine News got a boost early on in 2024 with Tipping Point getting better numbers that Hot Seat had been. That also saw it move to 5pm in Adelaide and Perth that helped there as well.
More recently however management and new leadership has seen some questionable decisions. They include the introduction of horoscopes and a “comedy” segment on Fridays. Then we saw Sharyn Ghidella sacked in Brisbane followed by the introduction of dual presenters in Sydney (and this week in Melbourne).
There has also been a marked shift towards consumer reporting (sales, cars, cruise ships, best ham etc). Allso is plus centralisation of some reporting with segments made to be distributed to all bulletins and specific to any market. And last week Seven switched to a national bulletin at 4pm while Nine is still local. I could go on…
@TV.Cynic
Ok thanks for the heads up. Looks like so many changes has impacted & ruined them. There’s more you can go on, oh my 7 are doomed!!
Now the Only thing remaining to fall & crack is 7 Adelaide, 7 Perth, Sunrise & The Morning Show…
At least give us, the fine folk at Media Spy, the privilege of a new, fresh comment rather than copying and pasting the exact same comment from over at TVTonight
Well I wanted to know what was the reason behind all these Ratings changes, can’t you see that there was no reply there until later, so apparently I’ve been hearing MediaSpy is much better, the Best website!! Much more informative. Just trying to get used of All the buttons, features on here!
