100%. It seems to be a struggle for any Australian FTA network to start a new show these days. If the success of HYBPA is any lesson, they need to stick with it for a while…
Attached with TV Tonight’s interview with Seven programming chief Brook Hall today are two photos from the show, confirming they will mock MasterChef Australia and The Kardashians on Disney+.
Looking forward to this!
Yes, its been a long time since we have had a sketch show. I think Comedy Ink on 9 would have been one of the last?
Around the same time of Comedy Inc, there was also SKIThouse (by the Roving Enterprises team) and The Wedge (notable for launching the career of Rebel Wilson).
Didn’t Seven also have the Big Bite around this time that helped launch Chris Lilley?
Oh dear, this looks dreadful.
Not looking forward to Seven censoring the life out of Ben Russell and Greg Larsen.
over two pictures?
Yes mate
This sounds a lot more like Comedy Inc, which was heavier on the tv/film parodies whereas skithouse/big bite iirc did more of the “original” sketches
I’d also say that Pizza launched the career of Rebel.
Yes. Toula in Pizza came first.
Fast Forward was also send ups of tv, music, movies and commercials.
Yes it was - well before the batch of shows being discussed as the last notable foray into sketch comedy by the commercial networks.
(Nobody mention Open Slather or Let Loose Live)
Or shortlived The Comedy Sale.
Fast Forward was huge and “must watch” back in its day.
You may or may not like these shows… but they have all launched a number or careers throughout the industry.
When? in 1998? That’s the last time. Hamish & Andy’s show arguable but that was mostly through radio and Rove.
What do you mean when?
As in what sketch shows have helped launch peoples careers over the years?
Yes, name an Australian sketch show that has been a career launcher since Full Frontal?
Rebel Wilson, Chris Lilley to name two high profile names from the 2000s.
Most of the cast and crew from Comedy Ink have premiered in other dramas and theatre productions throughout the industry. Emily Taheny and Mandy McElhinney have both done well locally.
But there really hasn’t been many commercial sketch shows launched throughout the 2010s.
