During tonight’s MasterChef roadblock - 10, 10 Bold and 10 Peach all have the 10 watermark. Some viewers will be thinking their TV isn’t working properly.

ABC Overlay

Not sure why the ABC had to overlay its watermark on top of Invictus Games logo?

I think it may have been accidental. It’s the normal sports positioning.

The watermark was the first one to be used by a metro network.

Anyone recall how long it was before Nine followed suit? I think it took a while. Did Ten hold out the longest?

Nine didn’t start watermarking during regular programming until around late 2001.

Of the metro commercial networks, yes. From memory, they didn’t start watermarking until December 2004.

Ten started wartermarking at 6pm on 14 December 2004. I was on holidays in Melbourne when i saw it and i recall the old mediaspy melting down over that one too, lol.

Only the Nine O&O stations had the watermark in the beginning. STW9 didnt have a watermark in 2005.

There were occasional forays into watermarking before these. Mostly for news coverage.

There was of course the Gulf War in 1991 which was the first major use.

Later, local news occasionally got watermarked for big stories like exclusive footage at Port Arthur in 1996

One event that was watermarked was the funeral of Diana in 1997.
