What legacy? Viacom? AT&T? There has always been a company that owned the studios.

One by one some of those brands in that graphic will either be sold off or shuttered

Wouldn’t selling them off be a good thing? That’s what most of the noise around this deal has been about, the reduction in competition.

I wonder how this will all play out for 10. Does Skydance see 10 as a liability or an opportunity? From all accounts, it seems like 10/Paramount ANZ is a pretty lean operation.

Soon to be living in a world where four of the “Big Six” film studios are owned by two companies :smiling_face_with_tear:

Just out of interest. Will this provide 10 with additional new content going forward?

Highly unlikely given both WBD and Paramount were open to licensing content to a variety of streamers. They may have easier access or slightly discounted licensing to some content. Perhaps they can pick up some decent movie franchises and a greater variety for their multi channels. At the moment they are pretty much a failed network with very little strategy. They are an over glorified shop window for P+.

Depends how they want to licence their content, whether they operate Warners as a completely standalone subsidiary (think New Line until the late 2000s when it was owned by Time Warner) or not.

Disney, at least initially, handed Fox differently.

And yeah all the existing contracts globally with various distributors for various mediums, some might be long-term or in perpetuity as well. Which will make things immediately challenging for Skydance/Paramount anyway.

10 needs a genuine sense of direction, something it has never really had under CBS ownership or, for that matter, during any other period of the network’s recent history. Until it finds that direction, it’s difficult to see how the brand can actually be built into something people genuinely want to watch.

The fact that Ellison has effectively killed off both the Paramount and Warner Bros. brands in corporate terms only reinforces the impression that his intention is to turn Skydance into a giant content farm, with everything it has acquired on both sides ultimately existing to serve that purpose.

US media outlets have already speculated that, if the company’s debt continues to grow, Skydance itself could end up being sold sooner rather than later.

Issue is the big overlords of paramount don’t give a shit about 10. They are a tiny blip in their stable of assets

My point exactly. 10 can’t be saved, and anyone who thinks it can, or that this merger will somehow change that, is mistaken.

God I hope not they don’t deserve any more assets
