On 23 March 1839, the word OK appeared for the first time in the Boston Morning Globe. It was a humorous abbreviation for "oll korrect". Funny abbreviations were a fad at the time, like the netspeak we see today.

Sounds like an April Fools joke to me.
If anything, they should make c redundant when k and s suffice. ![]()
Or only use c for the ch sound. ![]()
So which spelling is correct Doughnut or Donut? - Seven can’t decide.
While Nine are handing them out from a brand Krispy Kreme Doughnuts but a caption that is Donuts.
Well spotted. Also notice on Sunrise it was national, but a few hours later it had become international.
I prefer Doug nut day. In memory of uncle.
Don’t google that.
It’s Wednesday 22 October 2025. There is an actual World Nut Day.
You’re thinking of No Nut November.
Sound like an impossible challenge. ![]()
Its hard, I’m not normally one for nuts but I find it hard in November to resist a cheeky cashew or macadamia
I’m raging for some nice salty pistachios right about now.
You know the forum has gone off the rails when even the mods have gotten nutty! ![]()
Oxford University Press has named “rage bait” as its word of the year, capturing the internet zeitgeist of 2025.
The term refers to online content that is “deliberately designed to elicit anger or outrage by being frustrating, provocative or offensive”, with the aim of driving traffic to a particular social media account, Oxford said in a statement.
Can’t these people work one ONE word/phrase of the year? Not multiple? ![]()
