US Late Night Shows

At 1:52 a.m. ET on Friday, the president posted on Truth Social, “Colbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life. He was like a dead person. You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he’s finally gone!”

11.42pm. And that is that for the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Finishing up on 10 - on the East Coast.

Hello, Goodbye.

And the next chapter begins.

Is Oliver on borrowed time?

Last night’s final Late Show was a masterclass

The finale drew 6.74 million live + same-night viewers per Nielsen’s preliminary panel data in the US.

That’s higher than 6.55 million for the first ever Colbert episode and the second most-watched program of the night.

Colbert’s final week pulled in as many viewers as the rest of the competition combined.

Given the finale had a 17-minute overrun in America, did 10 show every bit of the episode?

Personally, thought it was a bit underwhelming. The opening montage and ending with Paul Mccartney’s performance and closer were great but most of it wasn’t really memorable (which is what a final show should be).

From what I saw, it looked like 10 ran all of it, with no obvious cuts. It didn’t run 17 minutes overtime here (did for about 7 minutes), but the length of the commercial breaks appeared shorter.

For the Final itself, I also had mixed reviews of it. Opener was good, and the interview and ending/final song with Paul McCartney was great.

The middle was a letdown. Shouldn’t have done his normal “meanwhile” segment, and did more reminiscing..

What class

It was part of one of the president’s latest meme sprees on Truth Social.

He also posted an image of his giant head looming over a Greenland town, one of a “golden dome” forcefield around the White House and a series of photos of himself.

We know it’s AI because he can barely lift a cup of water without requiring both hands.

Classy. Though with that clip now in the open, everyone can respond back the same.

himself throwing Stephen Colbert into a dumpster

Who needs this shit when we’ve seen the whole fight some 18 years ago?

Now that the forthcoming business daddy has shown that he’s not as lenient, I think Oliver might have some second thoughts on his contract…

Also, how about burning the bridges with some of the crew members?

[L]ast night, as the show came to an end, CBS had security come to kick out the family members of the crew, family who came to support their people, including my 12 year old, who was escorted out. In tears.

[…]

In a revolt, my husband went to the producers of the show and let them know if we weren’t staying, neither was he or the people who worked with him. If they left, there would be no show.

Eventually they caved, and we were allowed to come back and stay, only to find out today, anyone who revolted, was terminated immediately after the show - no load out, no strike. Done.

The husband’s side of the story is in the pinned comment

at like 4pm this afternoon, my counterpart and I received an email from Paramount HR Corporate that our last day was today, May 22, and dis-invited to the load out taking place over the next 2 weeks, presumably because I dared to stand up for my family visiting and watching the last show.

Never know ICE has infiltrated CBS.

Not even 24 hours later and he’s back where he used to be briefly.

Here’s the official video, from Stephen’s newly-created solo YouTube channel.

EDIT: If you’re wondering why the video @News727 posted is no longer available: unofficial uploads of the episode had been hit by copyright strikes from Paramount. It turns out that the episode was financed and produced by CBS, hence the takedown notices. The outcry has caused a (temporary, at least) stop on further action on takedowns.

…this is standard copyright procedure, the same kind of takedown Paramount/CBS would also issue if you posted an episode of “Matlock.”

I watched this yesterday and was both amused and impressed. Does anyone know how many writers he had for this special? The credits list is extremely long and I don’t have time to check every name on IMDB :joy:

I don’t have the patience to check, either, but the Variety article I posted in the edit above makes it clear that it was made with CBS’ blessing (and money).

It was just about the entire Late Show staff.
