Some activity there again. Couldn’t output a clock (it’s 6 hours behind Perth) so could only put “LIVE”.
I can’t see thos ending quickly. Iran is going to go for broke.
- US President Donald Trump has given his first public address since the war began, saying it could last “far longer” than four or five weeks
- An Iranian Revolutionary Guard senior official said today that the Strait of Hormuz is closed and vowed that Iran would fire on any ship trying to pass
- Three US fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defences, but all six crew members ejected safely.
- Iran has escalated its strikes on Israel, Lebanon, the UAE, Kuwait and Iraq.
- Saudi Arabia’s largest oil refinery, Ras Tanura, was forced to close this morning after shrapnel from an intercepted Iranian drone caused a blaze to tear through the facility.
- Iran’s Red Crescent reported the total Iranian death toll from strikes had surpassed 550.
Event began 3.50am AEDT. Only “News24” has live coverage via the UK simulcast.
Also watched closely by the morning shows’ production teams, safe to say.
- The war has entered a dangerous new phase after the Israeli military said it had struck a top Iranian meeting where senior leaders had gathered to elect a successor to the assassinated Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
- US President Donald Trump took questions for the first time from reporters in the Oval Office, reiterating numerous times his justification for launching the attack on Iran, saying “a nuclear war” was imminent.
- He again criticised UK’s Keir Starmer for its inital refusal to allow the US to use its base, saying ’this is not Winston Churchill that we’re dealing with.”
- Iran has escalated its retaliatory strikes on Israel, Lebanon, the UAE, Kuwait and Iraq, with explosions and air raid sirens sounding across Tel Aviv.
- Israel began a ground offensive in neighbouring Lebanon, escalating its campaign against Hezbollah.
- The Strait of Hormuz is closed, as Iran vows to fire on any ship trying to pass. The strait is a choke point for oil, which is trading at its highest price in eight months, with analysts fearing it could skyrocket further.
What’s with all the criticism? (This and other posts) The graphics program they use doesn’t allow that.
It was an observation based on what I think is a good option. There’s no need to criticize.
Except if it’s really, really bad.
No special bulletin planned by Seven tonight AFAIK. While they won’t want to pre-empt the return of The Front Bar, there is an opportunity for even a small bulletin following that. Especially in Sydney and Brisbane that has a filler repeat scheduled.
First double dose of US pressers since attack began coming up. Pentagon at midnight, then White House at 5.10am.
The latter may receive coverage from 7 and 9, considering sustained audience interest.
Pentagon: ABC carried in two-minute delay.
WH’s was between 5.20am and 6.00am. Nine did deliver a brief short-turnaround moment (see clock).
Sky had it live. Not sure how the transition at 5.30am went.
Then 7.17am, make that a triple dose as Trump had his own presser. ABC not live even in a good timeslot, the others unknown.
- A US submarine sank an Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka late last night, killing at least 80 people.
- Iranian bombers were just minutes from striking the largest US military base in the Middle East when Qatari planes shot them out of the sky, CNN reported.
- NATO air defences destroyed an Iranian ballistic missile fired towards Turkey early this morning, Turkey’s Defence Ministry confirmed.
- In a press briefing today, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt rejected the assertion that the US was responsible for a strike on a girls’ school in Iran that killed 165 people.
- The US Senate voted 53-47 to back President Donald Trump to continue action against Iran, blocking a resolution for Congress to have the final say on ongoing military operations.
Yesterday morning CNN tried for something new: a “global report” special, hosted by Anderson Cooper in his usual slot.
The only differences are a new title, an expansive set and a touchscreen segment. Other than that it was another hour of live rolling coverage, just like the other 23.
I really like the setup of this. They should have AC360 presented like this regardless than in front of his 2002 looking blue backdrop.
Yesterday, BBC launched a daily briefing on the war. It airs daily (at least for the next week) at 5.30am AEDT on the news channel.
The 10-minute slot (not 15 like the EPG suggests) is an overview of the day. On Saturday, the “Today” suffix will change to “This Week” and become 30 minutes.
Not sure what the appeal is when it’s only on a channel that spends 99.8% of its broadcast day covering the war anyway. Still presented by whoever is on the breakfast shift and coming from the same studio.
There are also sub-brands to the main “Iran War” branding.
An AR video wall as seen on ABCNC this morning.
Markets getting hit hard by the war, but surprisingly no business newsers went on air Sunday night (US time) to produce special reports.
Puppet regime on youtube is a good watch. This war is like many, unnecessary.
It isn’t just AI you have to be alert to, many videos of the conflict while real are deliberately misrepresented e.g. they are from another conflict in the past.
While Seven and ABC had 10 minutes of this media conference - Nine cut away after the PM’s address after 6 minutes. The whole conference covered deployment of equipment to the Middle East, return of Australians, security of fuel supply and Iranian soccer players.
Interesting that 7/ABC broke away from the conference while the Q&A was still going on.
The event ended up lasting 27 minutes. Nine has uploaded it in full on YT using 9News branding (supers limited to names only).
According to Iranian state media, Mojtaba Khamenei is set to speak any moment. (Meanwhile other reports are saying he’s in a coma.)
Of course, we all remember what happened the last time such an indication was made.
12.19am AEDT: No pictures, only voiceovers. So of course there’s only one way to take it.
Simulcast of state TV. Approaches vary, such as CNN translating verbatim, Sky (sometimes)/BBC choosing to contextualize, and AJ sounding like they’re using AI to do the job.
Meanwhile Australian news channels… Sky having a super but the main video feed is anything but.
