The 3rd largest radio company in the US files for bankruptcy again (the last time was in 2017), with plans to go private.
“A dark day for broadcasting.” CBS News Radio to shut down after 99 years
Since the dawn of the broadcasting era, it has been at the forefront of covering major events across the globe. Now, after almost a century, America’s CBS News Radio is shutting down.
In confirming the closure, CBS News cited a shift in radio programming strategies and challenging economic times as the reason for the decision.
CBS News Radio programming will officially wind up on May 22, will all jobs on its radio team to be axed.
Some 700 affiliated radio stations across the U.S had carried CBS News Radio programming.
Deadline reported that about 6% of the 1,100-employee company will be affected — roughly 60 to 70 people.

I used to be thrilled to very occasionally be able to pick up KNX 1070 in Australia - at the time the only all news radio I had heard.

Speaking of all-news, Nielsen released its ratings in a four-day batch from Tuesday to Friday.
And some mainstays of the format are doing ridiculously well.
- WINS: 7.8% NY, 10.6% LI - both all-time highs and no.1s in each market
- WBBM: 5.9% - no.2 in Chicago
- KCBS: 8.8% - no.2 in SF
- WTOP: 15.2% - best non-holiday performance for a Washington, DC station since itself in 1964

Shame they got rid of the iconic car beeps for their traffic reports.
The February blizzard helped fuel both WINS and WTOP… including WINS’ record-breaking 10.6 share on Long Island.
