Under Investigation

A new prime time news show coming to Nine in 2021 to be anchored by Liz Hayes.

Media Diary in The Australian is reporting Liz pitched the idea to Nine for a show that investigates major public events and mysteries with input from specialist investigators and experts searching for new evidence.

The production will share resources with 60 Minutes and will likely be given a limited mid evening trial run on a weeknight mid next year.

Sounds a little like Seven News Spotlight in format, a programme that is also designed to bolster the mid evening weeknight schedule with true crime stories on an ad hoc basis.

These shows like Dateline and 48 Hours so big business in the US, kinda surprised it took this long to get them here

Good to get Liz Hayes another project, too. She’s terrific.

Loved her presenting Today and the National Nine News back in the '80s. Always thought it was a pity she wasn’t given opportunities beyond 60 Minutes to do other things at the network.

Clearly Nine still have a lot of money they can keep powering into their news brand. This is hurting Seven in the long run.

A bit like 20/20 which airs on ABC America in the States
