Can anyone tell me who this newsreader/TV presenter is? He popped up “as himself” in an early episode of Neighbours from 1985, so I assumed he worked for HSV7.
I think it might be Tony Porter, he was a reporter on various shows and i think some minor acting roles as well.
Thanks @TelevisionAU - he had a few roles in Neighbours so it still quite possible this was him too.

Not sure if this is thread to ask but my friend and I were just talking about the night Blue Heelers lost signal and went to a white screen for the whole night but there’s nothing about it on the internet what date was it?
That sounds like 13 April 2005, when the entire Seven network and affiliates went down due to a power issue at BCM/HSV7. I believe Prime and GWN managed to play a standby program but the metro stations couldn’t even do that, because playout was centralised in Melbourne. All metro viewers saw was a greyish screen and a 7 watermark for about thirty minutes or so.
Sorry to do this again, but another fictitious newsreader has popped up on 1985 Neighbours and she looks and sounds SO familiar!! Anyone know who it is?

On the subject of technical problems causing a reairing. Does anybody remember something like that happening in 1992 with the Jimmy Barnes Soul Deep special? Don’t think it happened network wide but just with Prime TV
Yes, there was an outage that caused Prime to go off air in Newcastle one night for a few hours in 1992 meaning the concert couldn’t be shown in Newcastle. It was screened again the following week.
Apparently the same outage caused NBN to go off air in Tamworth (for some odd reason). I should be able to find an article on that at the library later today.
When did these regional bulletins cease? Did all regional ABC-TV stations have them? What was broadcast on the capital city stations at that time?
I’ve seen references to these before, but know little about them.
The 6.55pm regional bulletins (which only appeared on weeknights) ceased in 1985 when ABC replaced the state-based 7.00pm news services with ABC National, a one-hour news and current affairs hybrid starting at 6.30pm. ABC National had a single edition from Sydney covering NSW, ACT, Victoria and NT… with 10-minute “windows” for each state/city to insert their own local news headlines.
Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia had their own individual editions of ABC National but still featuring a lot of content (e.g. national news, political coverage, analysis, interviews) taken from the Sydney-based program.
ABC National was soon deemed to be a very expensive dud and ABC went back to having state-based 7.00pm ABC News bulletins and launching The 7.30 Report in each state in 1986.
Over the '60s and '70s there were lots of random 5-minute filler programs for capital cities in that slot and formats (either locally-produced segments or imports like This Week In Britain) varied from one state to another. But by the early 1980s it was broadly standardised to Videodisc (later called Take V or Take 5) which was basically just a music video clip to fill the minutes while regional stations had local news.

I represent the slightly weird PSA/PIF/CSA community. We’re fans of all kinds of social advertising on a variety of topics - commenting on them, finding them and archiving them, etc. I think given the title of this thread you can see where this is going.
I recently started a project to try to archive and categorise EVERY TAC advertisement from 1989 onwards. The entire lot. There’s loads on YouTube, but some were missing, some were in poor quality, and some had wrong titles or information. We were able to track down 2-3 missing ads by looking at TONS of ad breaks on YouTube for Victorian TV stations. And I mean ALL of the uploads… you won’t believe how many hours of content I’ve scrubbed through. I’ve emailed directors, producers, production companies themselves. I’ve checked library archives. And so now, after checking every video upload service, archive.org, the Wayback Machine, and countless other resources, we need other methods to find things. I immediately thought of this place.
I am basically asking if folk here have any old VHS tapes or DVDs that may have the material we’re looking for. We would be indebted to anyone who found something and supplied it, if they have the tools and knowhow. We would also, as a community, be very interested in helping get someone’s physical media to a person who CAN do this (safely and with respect for the original item) in order to get the material off.
