i think someone is having a lend… I’ve never heard of those and ABC hasn’t used state/location-based call-signs for years

Thanks man. just thought i’d ask.

i think they’ve been a bit creative with “MIQ” for Imparja in Mount Isa

According to ACMA:

and the wiki editor is clueless on this one too (BTV? GMV?)

Then what do BTV and GMV stand for?

they’ve been obsolete for 30 years they don’t exist. They are already listed under Former Call-Signs

Ballarat Television, Victoria
Goulburn Murry, Victoria

I mean, as the Wiki says.

Not in any ACMA documentation, just created for (the editor) not knowing the proper call signs.

The ABC one, wouldn’t of been used, would of have to been AUSSAT.

It’s very obvious that you were editing the article earlier today (only for someone else to come and clean up your false edits), at least be transparent about it next time and don’t waste our users time.

Consider this a warning, if you are caught again you will receive a temporary ban from the forum.

Also user ‘Heyitsstevo’ on wikipedia must be someone here as just as we’ve been discussing the use of call-signs has just wiped out all the legacy ABC call-signs and not thought to just shift them to “Former Call-Signs”

My apologies everyone.

Did the ABC once have a bureau in Kununurra or something? I looked it up and went on Google Maps, but apparently, it took me to some sort of roundabout if my memory is correct…

Still do an far as I know, radio studios for ABC Kimberley and rural reporters for radio and television.

Hi Guys,

I watched an old clip of Phil Gibbs doing the racing on (ATV-10)Channel 10 Coverage in Melbourne in 1988. When did the racing come over to (HSV-7) Channel 7 with Peter Donegan? I remember racing being on Channel 7 but it would of been very late 80’s into very early 90’s?

It was on Channel 10 well into the 2000s. Seven only had it maybe 10 years not much longer than that I don’t recall the exact time Channel Seven got it but it was roughly about 10 years ago.

Correct me if I’m wrong on this, but didn’t Seven get the FTA rights to most major horse racing events sometime around 2002? Obviously prior to then, Ten (Melbourne Cup Carnival) and Nine (most of the rest…I think) had been the dominant telecasters of jockeys whipping thoroughbreds around a course for much of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000/2001.

I think there was a brief spell around the Late 2000s/Early 2010s when horse racing was again on Nine, but Seven got the rights to those events again.

Presume you’re referring to 70s-80s. I think the general split was ATV did the VRC meetings at Flemington and HSV did VATC (Caulfield and Sandown) and MVRC (Moonee Valley). Then Nine took on everything (but rarely entire racedays, usually just the daily double) except the Melbourne Cup and Australian Cup carnival in the late 80s.

That must of been it as I remember Peter Donegan on HSV7 but can’t remember ATV-10 in the late 80’s Early 90’s (I know 10 had Melbourne Cup Coverage). I did not know the Racing clubs had split the coverage. Thanks

Was PALplus ever considered by the Australian Government?

First I’ve heard of it. Given it wasn’t largely introduced until the late 1990s I gather Australia instead just decided to skip it and go straight to digital
