I just saw it again and paid attention this time. Turns out it’s a Toyota ad. Nothing is said. The music just plays and it doesn’t quite match the images. Makes me think there was different music originally but they replaced it for some reason.
It’s the greatest game around!
Which channel? I bet it’s one I never watch
It was at the gym. It was one of the ads played in the break between workout music. They often play ads you don’t see on TV.
Yes, not sure how I forgot that one! Great family viewing, hopefully no trace of the reboot exists.
0-10 Network children’s drama series The Lost Islands has what must be one of the longest opening themes. And wait there’s more - at the end of each episode the theme continued.
Thanks, Bruce! Used to love this show growing up.
Do you know what the O-TEN Network and Paramount in recent years have in common? Both are now owned by ViacomCBS.
Roves and Big Brother theme tunes would probably be memorable to a generation of viewers.
Does anyone know anywhere OTHER than the old archived Media Spy vault which still contains all the old content, e.g. caps?
We may have discussed this clip of 1980s GTS/BKN previously, but watching again I find it quite fascinating:

I can see they are being fed Sale of the Century directly from a dirty NWS9 feed, and they use a holding slide (“standing by for relay”) which is partly an ad for Netting Chemist. Would that be the sponsor of Sale in this market?
How often were such slides used? Was there a legal reason they had to specifically state that the program was being relayed from Adelaide, or was it just to explain to viewers why the 9 PRG was appearing?
I’m not sure if Sale was live (I wouldn’t have thought so), so they would presumably know in advance all the timings and not have to resort to this slide as a “filler”. I notice they are a little late rejoining the network. Or, am I misunderstanding and the slide fulfills the role that a sponsorship billboard would fill these days?
There’s also a brief shot of another slide/graphic at 02:02 - which looks like an unbranded Sale of the Century slide. Was this something in their own slide/stills store they switched to in error, or was it perhaps part of a sponsor/promo on the NWS feed?
Sorry for all the questions - but that’s why I chose this thread to ask!
The very brief snippet of the Sale of the Century slide would have been BKN7 cutting away to show their own slide. BKN7 had its own control room back then and the operator must have been a bit slow in switching the feeds.
Ah - so that was the GTS slide, and BKN worked off a dirty feed from GTS? Did they also show their own ads?
Yeah, BKN inserted their own commercials at times and their own on screen clocks as well. It came in handy when there was NSW relevant content.
They would’ve had to during times like a state election.
How is NSW- specific content handled in the Broken Hill area these days? I believe that apart from the 7 Nightly News on GTS-BKN, everything else is a dirty feed of the Adelaide stations with local ads. Even the ABC News is the SA edition. Are there any opt-outs or feed switches during NSW election coverage or similar?
… oh that brings back memories (aka nightmares) … I was at GTS when we first started the feed to BKN … GTS took programs off-air from Adelaide and the BKN feed started at the end of the GTS tx area so that was off-air as well … in fact, when we first started colour, BKN couldn’t because the feed quality was so bad … as far as breaks were concerned, when BKN was standalone they used to sell 5sec and 10sec local spots … the 5sec ran between 30 and 60 secs and the 10 sec ran sometimes over two minutes … the was one particular shoe store that used to bring a whole lot of stock into the studio which was loaded on to a turntable with a camera pointed at it and the announcer (who was also the manager) recorded a rambling cart for as long as he felt like it … when we started the relay they had to curtail that and from then on the 5sec spots ran 30sec and the 10sec spots ran 60secs … they were also supposed to take the local 10-minute news at 2020 from GTS, but instead did their own thing which also rambled on meaning they often missed the start of the 2030 program just crashing in … real cowboy television … the clip you posted is almost smooth by comparison …
Wow, I was always under the impression that the GTS feed to BKN was via a microwave link.
Someone I know used to live in Broken Hill many years ago and they told me of the time BKN was knocked off the air for a full week back in the 1980s. The local video stores did a roaring trade that week! Turns out they were waiting for some kind of transmitter part to install hence why it was off air for such a while.
…yep … microwave from “the end of the GTS tx area” …
