Given that 7 was only up <50k with regionals added, I think it was easy to conclude that TP won metro.

For 7, their old way of coding Chase would have maybe given them an bigger average viewer advantage for the last 30mins but not with reach (which seems to be the main indicator now).

With their new coding for the full 60mins of the show, they will have probably have the reach & average but things will be closer than the way it was coded before.

It is also probably because TP is performing really well

I agree with this. It takes time for viewing habits to change. There is no simple fix for 10s 6pm slot, at least they’ve tried to do something with Deal or No Deal and it may take some time to gain traction.

It’s only day 2, but congrats to Nine, Woodbridge and the TP team, looks like the saturation during the tennis paid off big time and viewers are liking what they see, so far. Wonder what Seven, Larry and ITV would be thinking ATM.

Would be interesting to see the figures for 9 News Perth vs 7 News Perth - this seems like a large increase …

But we don’t know if 7news also had a YoY increase since there isn’t a press release from 7

Bugger. I thought peak was the reach. Oopsy me. Told you all im not good with change. lol. Sorry all.

Reach is total number of people watching >1 minute. Peak is the most people watching at any given minute.

Oh, i see. I get it now. Thanks, i appreciate it.

Because 9’s afternoon news and the original Tipping Point are a strong lead into 5pm.
7 chose to be complacent about this last year and really let TP establish itself.

I don’t think you’re the only one - the way the description of what reach is was a little ambiguous too.

I know its early days but a couple of things are starting to become obvious

  • The average ratio of Audience to Reach appears to fall between 2 and 2.5 - this will be something interesting to watch longer term (especially as we come into winter with sport)
  • The closer this ratio is to 1, the more ‘loyal’ that viewership could be considered - ABC News and Back Roads have incredibly low ratios (1.3 to 1.4). The downside for both programs is that they fall down the rankings considerably.
  • The 6pm news on both Nine and Seven has surprisingly low ratios as well (1.6)

Really the only thing that 10 can do to get viewers in at 6 is… News. The vast majority of total audience available at that time are news watchers. It’s clear it brings eyeballs to televisions.

10 is not only competing to get eyeballs to switch on, but competing with two very strong and consistent news services.

The pool of people is just not there for any other format to rate strong enough.

They need to beat 7 and 9 at news. Not easy, but fairly obvious to see week in week out, year on year on year. Be competitive during news hour, expose your networks offerings and watch as your shows do better.

As an aside, it really doesn’t help giving a show to a host that has failed to rate in every previous show he has hosted. Silly.

“Dominated” :joy: You obviously heard from Nine’s media department.

It does seem like a better choice for them, but adding three networks at 6pm news gives very little options for viewers and huge completion for 10.
