Nine had a convincing 6-point win on Tuesday thanks largely to Travel Guides’ last regular episode of the 2023 season. Nine’s share was down on the previous week along with ABC while 10 and SBS posted improvements and Seven was unchanged.
The night also featured the grand final of Dessert Masters with the Winner Announced Segment a series high of 556,000 metro viewers after the rest of the final had 465,000, up 50k week-on-week. The new show has been an success for 10 with competitive total people and timeslot winning demo numbers. It has averaged a linear metro audience of 440k significantly lifting 10 in the timeslot year-on-year. It will return in 2024.
Following was the 2023 final of The Cheap Seats that averaged 350k to again win its timeslot. It was +100k ahead of Nine’s repeat movie while Big Brother continued its run on Seven even with the previous week.
Despite the competition, Seven’s offering of Highway Patrol episodes improved on the previous week’s results.
ABC’s The Way We Wore, however, lost audience for its second episode.
Earlier, news numbers were up overall with Nine grabbing wins in Melbourne and Brisbane.

As I predicted last week, Dessert Masters finale was upstaged by Travel Guides. At least Dessert Masters delivered consistent ratings though. Next year it will be up against Paris Olympics which is a monumental challenge. It will be interesting to see which program will take over 10’s 7.30pm timeslot in 12 months’ time.
Sharri Markson’s follow-up to her COVID investigation documentary did quite well in pay TV ratings.
Nine News narrowly won both Monday and Tuesday nights in Brisbane as Seven revealed its new set. Perhaps viewers are still getting used to it?

Those Big Brother housemates must be miffed why they aren’t being recognised in the street.
120,000 viewers won’t translate into too many Instagram followers.

Dessert Masters did better in demos though.

Big win for Channel 9 (over 8% ahead of Seven’s main channel), as Travel Guides continued to be a big hit.
Dessert Masters finished really well for 10 and outperformed Travel in the key demos (at least the end portion). Cheap Seats great later result. 10’s day time still looking good too (LOL B&B vs BB!)
Seven saved by big shares for 7Two and 7mate (WBBL finals did really well), but main channel affected by the competition and reflected in their share, however as noted by Cynic stayed well above 300k metro (and up) and miles in front of what BB is doing. While filler these days, they’ve proven successful enough when needed and loyal audiences, other markets and regional too.
It is indeed a stark contrast from the first season of the show where millions of Australians tuned into each eviction show and there was a real buzz about the Housemates leading to months of public appearances etc. The show now struggles to crack the Top 30 shows for the night and the average person on the street would have no clue on who any of the housemates are. The brand is dead on 7.

The biggest problem with this pre-recorded format is the public is not invested in the evictions because they have no input. It all comes down to stupid games. In the original format, it didn’t matter how many time you got nominated, if the public liked you you were safe - much to the annoyance of the other housemates in some cases.

9Go! struggling at the moment, last of all of Nine’s channels, including 9Life and even 9Rush. Not sure why Nine would bother signing commercial agreements that include broadcast rates (unless their partner Google Pixel requested broadcast exposure and willing to pay on top of bvod), should just be 9Now exclusive. Although of those watching 9Go, they’re predominantly very young, so somewhat pleasing for them I guess.

Go! is suffering as I predicted because it is stripping Love Inland across the schedule. Only about one tenth of the show’s audience is watching live on 9Go!It should have been bumped to a less critical timeslot.
