A rain delay in the final day of the first Ashes test dampened 9Gem’s share but the multichannel still contributed 12.4% to Nine’s network result for an easy Tuesday win. That was higher than 10 and ABC’s main channel results. The ratings for the cricket started to pick up at Lunch as the game finally got underway at 11:15pm AEST.

The result saw Seven, 10, ABC and SBS all down about 2 points each. On Nine’s main channel Parental Guidance concluded its second season that generally rated lower in linear numbers with 411,000 tuning in last night. That compares to the inaugural season final that had 477,000 in 2021.

Seven had to rely on its News service to do some heavy lifting again to get the night off to a good start while Home and Away did well to top 500k, unusual for a Tuesday night. Million Dollar Island was then on par with its recent results with 270k.

Over on 10, MasterChef was again prime time’s top entertainment show, though down 50k on the previous Tuesday. Cheap Seats that followed was also down but again number one in its timeslot. The show was 6th in 25-54 ahead of Parent Guidance in 7th place while Million Dollar Island was 16th.

ABC’s night featured The ABC Of… that reached a season high.

The rain-delayed start to the final day of 1st Ashes test didn’t deter fans, as shown by the multichannel figures. The numbers for session 2 and 3 of the cricket will be adjusted given the match didn’t finish until 4.30am AEST today. Anyway, tomorrow’s ratings report will show Nine dominated early morning with the cricket and the night with State of Origin game 2.

It will be interesting to see if Nine will give Parental Guidance another chance, given the current season posted below average overnight ratings but did quite well in BVOD and timeshifting. It wasn’t helped by the fact that its final week was up against the cricket and was bumped to post-8pm on Sunday this week.

Low figures for the Wally Lewis special.

As suggested yesterday in another thread, that’s very impressive for 9Gem last night, especially S1 and Lunch! Eager cricket fans awaited the close final day.

Obviously Nines figures for the cricket would have been higher if it weren’t for the rain, so perhaps a little karma intervened here

I look forward to Origin tonight and all the benefits of exclusive sports deals that we all love so much including a never ending onslaught of ads and inferior commentary

I don’t even mind if we miss some of the game while we are watching ads for The Voice

You would be watching seven then to see those.

Lol. Classic.

The ratings have been interesting the last few weeks not having a dominant type show. And seeing some variation in whats leading.

It’s much cheaper than the likes of Ninja, Celebrity Apprentice etc and rated about the same (and better in demos). In addition its BVOD figures indicate that it’s competitive overall.

Not that I care much about this show but I could see it being renewed.

Probably best at the back of the year after the block or maybe following MAFS finishing keeping that demo that loves trashy judging.

Karma for what exactly? It would have rained regardless of who was showing it. Do I think that the analysts Nine has are the best? Outside of Tubby, they are fine without being great. I don’t think they are quite conveying the scale of the series quite like they have in the past when they broadcast the home series (and like they do with other events they have), but at least they are giving some different voices a go, which was a major criticism of their coverage towards the end.

Beats paying for something that should be free. And it Fox had live broadcast rights, I’m sure you would find there would be plenty of people complaining about them as well.

What a strange connection to make.

Actually I think we should drop that discussion

Not the place

I don’t think calling people socialists is a great way of creating genuine discussion. But you are right that having choice in coverage can often have benefits as it can push broradcasters to improve their coverage. For example, I think Seven’s test coverage has improved over the last few years because there is that bit of competition to provide a viable alternative to the Fox coverage. When it comes to the big events however, I really am of the belief that it needs to be in one place, and FTA is that place, at least for now.

Yeah I was joking about the socialists but I get it that the banter may go a bit far and might be taken too seriously

Point taken about FTA but I do miss the league not being on Foxtel

I mean, I get it. If you are paying for coverage, people probably would be expecting everything. I guess the counter arguement would be that they do get far more exclusive content than FTA do.
