Looks like a really cool idea, especially the reenactments with well known actors.

Would probably watch this, it actually looks entertaining as much as H&A annoy me sometimes.

TV Tonight says 5 episodes in June, another 5 later in the year. 30 minute episodes too.

Looks like a distinct and fresh concept really. Hopefully it works.

Is there a promo posted anywhere? Don’t watch much Nine but have been an avid watcher of H&A’s TV shows.

TRUE STORY WITH HAMISH & ANDY

Premieres Monday 5 June at 7.30pm

One of the most eagerly anticipated new programs of the year, True Story with Hamish & Andy, will make its long-awaited premiere on Monday, June 5, at 7.30pm on Channel Nine.

True Story with Hamish & Andy will bring to life the best Australian tales you’ve never heard, told by the very people who experienced them and then humorously and cinematically realised through dramatic recreations.

In each half-hour episode, Hamish and Andy will meet one regular Australian storyteller who will recount their amazing, surprising, funny and above all true story, which will be simultaneously recreated by a cast of Australia’s most renowned performers.

The carefully scripted recreations will produce a dramatic and heightened reality that brings a sense of the epic to these everyday stories of glory
 or perhaps complete humiliation.
In the premiere episode we meet Rachel, a bubbly and warm-hearted mother who always puts family first – a family that has been known to attract their fair share of bad luck, especially on holidays. But through sheer will and a sense of humour, Rachel’s strength and optimism always gets them through.

While on a work trip to Hong Kong, Rachel’s husband Mark, her two-year-old son Ashton and five-year-old daughter Brooke flew over to visit. After a week of lecturing in risk management, Rachel and her family are invited to dine with one of Rachel’s students: a high-ranking government official.

But when they arrive at the unexpectedly fancy restaurant, Rachel’s risk management skills are put to work like never before. When the special entrĂ©e is brought out, a local delicacy called Thousand Year Old Eggs, Rachel is willing to do whatever it takes to avoid eating the stinky and expensive dish. So, not wanting to be rude to her gracious hosts, she sneakily promises Mark that she will give him “anything” if he eats her eggs. He of course accepts the challenge – one they would all soon regret.

True Story with Hamish & Andy is created and produced by Tim Bartley, Hamish Blake, Andy Lee and Ryan Shelton and is written by Hamish Blake, Andy Lee and Ryan Shelton.

Directors include Wayne Hope (Upper Middle Bogan, Now Add Honey, The Librarians), Sian Davies (The Ex-PM, House Husbands, Nowhere Boys) and Tim Bartley (Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year, Little Lunch, Real Stories). The series is produced by Andrew Walker (Rosehaven, The Kettering Incident, Wanted).

How could eating preserved egg would lead to disaster for everyone? Rachel may have exaggerated the story. A lot of people in HK eat preserved egg with no problems at all.

Huh? Have you actually seen the episode? Yet another thing that shocks, surprises or you can’t believe.

Well for a start, preserved egg is neither expensive nor a delicacy. It is commonly available at egg stalls in markets across Hong Kong (in Australia they are sold at Asian grocery stores). If the eggs are done properly they don’t taste stinky.

I thought it was going to be comical fictional stories, but it’s a reenacted humorous version of Australian Story.

Well maybe they weren’t and that might be the point. How about you reserve your disbelief until after you’ve actually seen it.

/does not compute

I have a few questions after reading a glowing review about this show on TVTonight. Are Hamish & Andy listed as producers on this? Wouldn’t they know the story if they were producing the re-enactments? When were the re-enactments shot? How long has this show been in development to have all those actors with free schedules?

If nine are smart they will run “This Time Next Year” off the back of this or vice versa

I was skeptical at the structure at first too. But it looks like Hamish and Andy did the sit down story telling bit, and then they went away and scripted and filmed the reenactments. They started asking for stories in the early part of last year, so they’ve been at it for a while.

It depends how long the re-enactments go for. Maybe the scenes were filmed in one day so it wasn’t a big commitment for the actors.

So how did they mould that in seamlessly? cause I read it jumps back and forth to studio with narration I would think filming the re-enactment first would be the easiest way? Did the audience just hear people’s stories on set? sounds boring.
