I had a couple of guys at the Artarmon TX site yesterday from the Central Coast, one early to mid 40’s, the other mid 20’s to mid 30’s I guess, they were near the SCA transmitters (which are labeled on the front what station they are), & I overheard the younger one bring up about Triple M up at home (Gosford) to the older one, something like hey this is what we have, etc., Triple M & Hit 101.3, & there was a short discussion between them, then the older one asked me was this their Triple M?
I had to explain no it wasn’t, etc. & why they had a Triple M & so does Sydney, I didn’t bother telling them why both Triple M’s play different music.
So well done to SCA, the general public mightn’t know or care that their original stations names changed the become Triple M, but they have no idea what it means, or why there’s more than one Triple M (especially in neighbouring markets where both or in Gosford’s case, three Triple M’s can be heard).
Congratulations SCA, you’ve successfully weakened the Triple M brand & destroyed the iconic original (Sydney) Triple M.
10 plus years ago, if you worked at Triple M, you’d made it & it was something you’d be proud to tell your grandkids about, now every man & his dog works for Triple M, & it’s nothing special.
The (S)Hit brand came out of nothing & will probably go back there, & they realised they’d made a mistake in the metro’s bringing back the 2Day, B105 & SAFM branding, & not changing the Fox, but I’m not sure how they or anyone else, can resurrect the previous status of Triple M Sydney/Melbourne & to a point Brisbane & Adelaide, if or when they drop the Triple M branding across all regional stations?
Sorry guys, just my rant for the day, yes I hate SCA with a passion, but I’m proud to look after the transmitters of what was once the iconic powerhouses of Triple M & 2DayFM Sydney.
