Triple M Network

There is plenty of speculation about who will be part of the new show. Former Nova drive and Triple M breakfast and drive co-host Marty Sheargold is on the list of prospective new employees.

However the talented performer is thought to be too expensive for the broadcaster as it looks to cut costs in a market where top talent salaries have gone off the chart.

Other candidates could be Mick Molloy and Jane Kennedy moving from drive to breakfast, something that would effectively kill a national drive show though. Triple M could network former Melbourne resident Lawrence Mooney, but that would be a very brave programming move. Other duos on the SCA books are Hit Network nights’ Tom and Olly, podcasters Matt and Alex, and a handful of talented regional broadcasters, some recently departed, that could be part of the build of a new show.

Marty’s Nova producer Loren has quit Nova reportedly for a job at SCA in Melbourne, would make sense if he’s moving to breakfast. (Radio today)

Thomson and Barry, say sources, are set to reunite with Marty Sheagrold at SCA next year.

O’Connell has called the obvious.

Will he broadcast from Melbourne?

I’ve never listened to Jo Stanley before but this year she’s been fantastic on MMM. I hope they keep her around.

Seeing as he lives here, I’d say that’s a safe bet.

Wouldn’t Marty be under a no compete clause after leaving Nova?

If Marty pops up at SCA he would more likely go to Triple M Melbourne then 2day, considering how much the Nova playlist shitted him, the similarity in playlist between Nova and 2day, and he is based in Melbourne.

Marty moving to 2day fm would be a massive concern for Paul Jackson, he did say in his latest interview if 2day got their breakfast show right Nova 969 would be in serious trouble.

Maybe that’s why he left Nova when he did instead of finishing out the year

It certainly would explain his early departure from Nova. If he has a 3 month no compete clause, it was timed so he could start fresh in 2021. I am surprised he would want to do the breakfast shift though.

Breakfast radio and doing standup at night won’t work. One of the reasons he left Nova was to concentrate on standup and other opportunities. With his EP leaving Nova for SCA certainly points to him going to SCA.

BTW wherever he goes he will build an audience, he rated very highly on drive at Triple M, and of course on drive at Nova.

On another note, radio legend Trevor Smith has been hosting some great music specials on Triple M country digital. Currently one on now at 19:00 for Brad Cox. Heard one last week for Keith urban. Love it

Doubt she would want to return to breakfast radio again.

If was given the chance to have his own show like Moonman I’m sure that would be inviting, plus money and of course maybe broadcasting from home as he lives far out of the city.

I could imagine it’ll be a Marty focused show like Christian O’Connell. Otherwise, it wouldn’t had been worth Marty leaving Nova for anything less.

… For him to do early starts means there’s something in it for him …

In the middle of a pandemic?

I also would say he’d rather be getting radio money at the same time

I have no doubt he’ll be doing standup in 2021 (including those 2020 shows that were pushed back from COVID). But standup alone is hardly a secure income.

Eddie told the Herald Sun today that Derryn Hinch’s tweets were not true.

“We spoke as late as last week with Triple M,” McGuire said. “They were keen to look at planning for the next five years, and we thought, ‘This is a good way to finish.’ But, in my mind, it was probably since June I’ve known it would be the last year.”
