triple j

Each song is supposed to be played in full. Clair de Lune runs for more than 7 minutes.

(It’s also the first time I get to listen the song in full. I heard snippets when that song was used in Telstra commercials in 2021-2023)

EDIT: Angus and Julia Stone’s Chateau featured in realstate.com.au’s commercials in 2023 and 2024.

Yeah I know, and I thought Telstra as well! I honestly didn’t even know it was a song, I thought it was Telstra production music.

I’m not saying cut down longer tracks, just that it was one of a few moments even in the first 2hrs where the pacing has felt really unusual, like there’s not really anything holding these songs together other than being from here, whereas a yearly Hottest 100 has a bit more consistency and more of a party vibe

Nope- play the songs in full, as the artists intended them to be heard. I was fully expecting them to just play Evie- Pt I but full credit to them for playing the whole thing.

A few more modern songs creeping in now; will be interesting to hear what is at the pointy end.

I too only know that Flight Facilities song from the commercial.

some of these newer songs are not what JJJ plays normally, it might be worth the programmers taking note of what the audience wants. and I wish they would hire some announcers that could actually string a sentence together… sounds like some back of Nimbin, weed soaked, zoned out community station.

They could get those loud mouthed unfunny breakfast hosts off commercial stations..

Least they can string a sentence together most of the time. that interview just before the Go Betweens, just sounded like an awkward first date!

Ben Lee on Now! Like this song!

I think the Triple J hosts generally sound like nice people in their late 20s to mid 30s that work at a local youth centre. They’re not bad at their jobs, as youth workers, but they don’t really sound like youth to me if that makes sense.

But I’m old now so I might be wrong haha. I hear more youthful and new energy on SYN FM in Melbourne with the no-over-26s rule, I wish Triple J would implement something similar.

Yeah but there is no energy in these 2 on now. Sound quite disinterested to be honest

If they are still going to put Double J on FM it’d be a great time to announce it.

Guessing that conversation stalled out though?

Ash McGregor to her credit has been the host of Home & Hosed for years, they’ve been putting a lot of work into getting local and new Australian music out there

I think maybe it is hard to get too enthused about a grab bag of songs with no real throughline to them and a lot of emphasis on older stuff, that’s kind of how I’m feeling at the moment but trying not to be cynical about this experimental thing JJJ are doing with good intentions

I do think it would be a better station overall if they just did new and local music, like 60-75% minimum

Which is going to happen when you have a broad mix of time periods and genres.

The annual countdown has consistency because everyone is making music that is trying to either be radio-friendly or TikTok hits.

The throughline you are looking for is nostalgia and a celebration of Australian music tying into the 50th anniversary of Triple J.

They aren’t going to change JJJ much and I don’t have a problem with that, it’s got a yoof remit after all. I aged out of it long ago. My main problem is with Double J; they should skew older than they do. This countdown so far is an affirmation of that and a good opportunity to tweak the JJ format. Will they take it? Probably not.

Anyone just get audio dropouts during the Cat Empire! Listening on FM

The Cat Empire are timeless, this song feels like it could’ve come out today.

Audio was fine in Melbourne on 107.5, RDS has gotten stuck on song titles a few times however

All good on 107.7 Brisbane

I’m liking that there are some more mainstream songs in the mix here… I would listen more often if JJJ had more of a mix of better known / lesser known songs.
