triple j

Triple J are pretty good at ensuring things occur in time for the on the hour, keep in mind that during the week whilst the programming is delayed, the news is live, so everything is timed to allow that, the main nuance would be to ensure SA/NT are aligned for on the half hour rather than crashing in.

So your complaint is that you have to actually listen to the countdown to see the songs (or look at the website / app). What a concept!

Though I’ve just checked DAB (Sydney) and there IS song info on that display… as I understand it, normally FM takes its RDS text info from the DAB feed, so that’s interesting.

Maybe something’s not right there in Sydney.

There’s plenty of posting on the @triple_j Instagram

Yeah, I have seen some of it. Not the same tbh. :sob:

One thing I’ve noticed during today’s countdown is presenters and voiceovers using the ‘F’ bomb… not something I’ve heard before?

Not sure it’s really a good idea, given Triple J’s positioning as a ‘youth’ station.

I know their songs have had the F bomb uncensored for years and years, but at least there is a ‘language warning’ before the song.

Geez, I remember the days when if you wanted to find out what made the Hottest 100 you had to wait for the flyer to be available at the ABC Shop

I know their X has been archived but I’m perplexed their Facebook page with 1.4 million followers is silent while on air they’re promoting their Instagram (900k) and TikTok (241k). It might not be their target demographic but beggars [recent ratings] can’t be choosers and the potential engagement they’ve missed out on today, with their biggest day of the year is just crazy.

Facebook isn’t really built for people posting regular updates anymore and last I heard the algorithm punished pages for doing so. Plus as you say, not really their target isn’t really on there.

What about the rest of us old fogies who want to whinge about how the Hottest 100 was better back in my time as a youf. How dare the ABC fail to consider our needs

There is a live blog of this year’s Hottest 100 on the ABC News website:

The No.1 song should be revealed at around 7.30pm AEDT.

Thanks young buck

The Hottest 100 was the subject of office lunchroom chat this week - mainly because several people had forgotten to put their votes in, so they were rushing to get them in.

Going through the list it didn’t surprise me how little music I knew, but the stuff that was missing from the shortlist that had been strong Triple J performers in the past, also the music that I’d never expected to be on rotation at the J’s.

Agreed. But pushing the content from Instagram like the last 10 songs to Facebook and vice versa is literally a check box, so not sure why they’ve abandoned Facebook completely, especially for the last 5 months!

And the Number 1 song for 2023 was:

Paint The Town Red - Doja Cat

I wonder if its engagement etc. or maybe they’ve lost the password

AS a qlder who loves real time music/tv all .Ii prefer live streams over delayed. Even have tv programs that broadcast sydney time so i can watch say breakfast tv on a weekend at 6am instead of 7am when it starts on the tv here

What triple j do is at 12pm EDST they start the countdown in the eastern states.
So during the mornings before hand when u hear them say, oh QLD leaving us now…say at 11.00am in NSW time which is then QLD 10am…So we then hear 10am - 11am music played on the delay… Then we miss that last hour of music they played between 11am and 12pm before countdown and then at 11am QLD will then drop into the hottest 100 in real time,
, If u in NSW u will hear them say at 11.30am EDST Adelaide will go now, which will then be 11.00am SA time, so on and on so forth with each diff state, WA would have started at 9Am
Hope i dont confuse u,
all states hear music live in every state real in time from number 100

now im not sure about the other end of the night when/how they run back into local timezones tonight…
I know when states go back and forwards into/outta DST they do it about 4am

i guess thats why abc locals just said F it- gonna go live into every states at night now so all of country can be in real time.

Listening to After Party tonight following on from the Hottest 100, THIS is what Triple J needs to be. Amazing production values, letting the songs roll behind Latifa Tee, giving a great vibe.

Yeah, I agree that FB probably isn’t the best place to do this anymore but why they have completely abandoned it I’m not sure.
