Itās just a shame that itās not on Australia Day anymore, the amount of hysteria over needing to change the date was a bit ridiculous really - itās just a radio countdown after all.
Anyhow, itās been all said and done and we move on.
Exactly, not disrespectful but another example of the ABC misappropriating their own selves to make a political point they should be neutral on.

Triple J Hottest 100 Weekend
Hottest 100 on triple j live from 12.00pm on Saturday 25 January. Australian Music all day on Double J on Sunday 26 January. The Hottest 200-101 on triple j from 10.00am Monday 27 January and the Classic Hottest 100 of 1999 from 10.00am on Monday 27 January on Double J.
It might not come as a massive shock that Billie Eilish has topped this yearās Hottest 100 ā after all, few artists had a more successful year in music ā but it is hugely significant.
At 18, sheās the youngest person to ever top the annual countdown and makes history as the first female solo artist to hit #1. Her momentum in recent years has been unstoppable, with four songs in the Top 50 of the Hottest 100 of 2018, but nothing has had the ubiquity of ābad guyā.
Itās a bass-heavy, beat-switching oddity thatās resonated on a universal level, conquering charts and streaming services, inspired the most retweeted tweet of 2019 and a payload of memes. And itās not just the teenage stans whoāve followed Billieās meteoric rise from internet fame to legit pop culture icon who have been hailing her as the future of music.
āThank you guys, you did this!ā Billie told triple j listeners on-air, fresh from topping the Hottest 100. āThatās insane. Thank you so much, itās an honour. Itās so crazy to me. I love Australia, I miss you guys. I havenāt been there in a minute and Iām so excited to go back.ā
Though I was kind of surprised that Dance Monkey wasnāt Number 1.
Me too, Dance Monkey was my vote for number one. I had 6 songs in the countdown.
Not surprised this won to be honest, and as much as the Tones and I story is a good one and suits the Js, I couldnāt stomach the song and am glad it didnāt win.
I reckon itās one of the better countdowns in recent years, still a fair bit of mediocre stuff but less offensive stuff up the top (cough Kendrick Lamar cough)
Lime Cordiale tho.
Yes I liked a couple of their songs, but fuck me sideways does their music sound the same.
I was surprised listening to the list today how many songs Iāve recognised because Iāve either listened to them during the year or Iāve heard them peripherally (i mustnt be as out of it as I thought I was) - but it amazed me how many songs sound similar
In days of old, artists who had hit songs on Triple J that then found commercial success were somewhat punished in the H100
Robbery is a good pop song and deserved to do well, but agree with the charge. Mind you, not the first band to have been accused of that and done well in the countdown (cough Gang of Youths)
I guess nowadays with the Nova crowd voting as much as the J crowd, that is less of an impediment to such tracksā¦
It seems to be a very Australian thing - itās almost like someone tells these bands that the path to success is in music that is homogeneous
I know of some people in the music industry who talk of being āschooledā by producers and the like to try and recreate the ātriple jā sound, and that if you donāt you practically limit your potential for progression within the industry here. These could just be examples of disgruntled people who havenāt made it, but given there is essentially one well-worn path of āmaking itā in this country, and that is to be pleasing to the ears and taste of a 55 year old in Sydney, there could be a shred of truth to it
That explains why there is a lot of mainstream songs in the countdown, but these are songs Triple J play anyway.
I will be listening to the top 200 today from 10am.
Veronica Milsom is finishing up at triple j on February 21
Michael will start on February 24.
Hing was basically on the show every other day for the last 6 months, this decision comes as no surprise.
