Iâll believe it when I see it. Less chance of Bonza been a success, let alone getting off the ground than Rexâs jet operations IMO.
Bonza moving into Tigers former space at T4?
That was mentioned on 9 News. As long as they donât end up down at the Jetstar Boarding area which is a bloody long way from Check-in vs the old Tiger gates which sit in front of the food court.
Will get even more crazy down there when Virgin security closes (already has?) so you have Jetstar, Bonza, Rex, Virgin all fighting for the same security.
This is utterly ridiculous, and hopefully something MEL isnât going to keep permanently unless significantly increasing the scope and size of the screening area.
I canât see Bonza doing well, theres a reason these routes donât exist, the demand isnât there.
Not only does the demand not exist, but the capacity for that level of operations out of MCY (Sunshine Coast Airport) is very questionable.
And theres the fact that the flights will only be a few times a week, people are less likely to fly when theres less choice of dates/times, I have flown out of MEL instead of AVV which is much closer because of this
What I hate is they normally only ever have 1 or 2 stations open. Double the passenger volume however they wonât double the security stations open. I used to sneak in via the security checkpoint near the Virgin lounge that leads into T4 (always dead), thatâs if the T4 Check-in snaked down to the escalators which was 20 minute wait.
Given a majority of Bonzaâs destinations will be in regional NSW and QLD, I think the airline is giving opportunity to residents in those towns direct flights without having to transit through Brisbane or Sydney. In turn, the communities are hoping these direct flights will attract more visitors and boost the local economy.
Have no idea when I will be travelling anywhere again. I still have unused credit from Jetstar,or I could go on a road trip
I havenât left the ACT since 2018, travelling anywhere seems pointless until the world returns to normal
I havenât been outside NSW since 2019, I plan to go interstate sometime by June, but will leave overseas travel alone until next year.
i have 9k in emirates thanks to an untaken business trip in 2020. i might get to use it this year. it seems London is becoming a viable destination now
I have only left Victoria once since the start of 2020 to visit family in my home state of SA in January 2021, but I did go on a south pacific cruise from Sydney for Christmas 2019
Qantas also announced today it would resume direct flights between Perth and London on June 19.
Only state I havenât been to since the whole shemozzle started has been WA. Last year did NSW, ACT and Vic in a matter of weeks between March and Easter, NT mid year for a primary schools 50th anniversary, SA a week before Christmas for the D/N test, and TAS early this year.
The Bonza thing I think missed a trick in that they should have tried to get better terms with Avalon to give that airport a tenant airline much like they intend Sunshine Coast to be. The fact theyâre mainly based on the Sunshine Coast is good business for Qld who can now see Sun Coast as the budget domestic airport, Gold Coast as the budget international terminal especially as more Asian destinations reopen, and Brisbane as the main hub. In terms of routes Iâm a bit iffy on flights to places like Toowoomba Wellcamp (unless theyâre for the unvaxxed) or Albury, but locally I can see Rok-Tsv being a winner.
