A bit of a nightmare right now. I’m hoping this settles down and is a bit simpler mid-2022.

Someone at work was telling me about all the hurdles her brother had to go through. It sounded like a lot of effort. You need to be on top of so many different requirements before you go and also be ready for where you land and their requirements. It’s not as easy as going on a trip to multiple countries or destinations anymore. I want to travel but I will hold out until mid next year when hopefully things are a little easier and have settled more.

Travelling to London or Los Angeles will be equivalent- in logistical terms- to an expedition to Antarctica in the ‘before times’. I think I will wait it out.

It’s hard enough to do an interstate trip with all the requirements let alone overseas. Whilst applying for an SA border pass from here is easy enough, but I have to wait until 3 days before I return to Qld to fill in the Queensland pass even though I’m a resident. Fortunately with SA not being a hotspot the testing requirement isn’t required like it would be post Christmas in Melbourne.

Continued border uncertainty between New Zealand and Australia means Air New Zealand must cancel more than 1000 flights through to the end of December 2021.

“Now, due to recent statements by the New Zealand Government that quarantine-free travel between Australia and New Zealand is unlikely to recommence this year, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to change our schedule,” said Air New Zealand chief customer and sales officer, Leanne Geraghty.

The airline continues to operate a reduced schedule of flights into Sydney and Melbourne and “red flights” from Australia into New Zealand for those with MIQ spots.

Seems nuts given their vaccination rates are so strong and their daily cases per capita are now higher than Australia.

Time to be brave Jacinda.

just came back form 4 days down at royal pines resort down the gold coast. Given it was schoolies we were expecting some issues but there were none - perhaps as it is too far from the beach and schoolies hub.

Was a fantastic stay at the hotel and we will be back with the kids.

On saturday night we went to the outback spectacular and it was great - the food (entree is a goate cheese feta and roast veg tart, main is either beef or chicken with roast pumpkin, beans and mash and desert is a choc tart with a caramel sauce)

the show was a little predictable and hokey but was enjoyable and the animals used in the show are amaxzing

Even longer wait for quarantine-free travel between Australia and NZ.

I think Air New Zealand will have to cancel more flights between December 31 and January 16.

Probably never considering that even when tourist travel is opened in April, there’s still a 7 day quarantine period.

I was thinking of a zoo I went to as a child in country Victoria. I believe it was in Buxton or close to Healesvile and I was just wondering if anyone remembered it or know what happened to it or if it’s still around?

Could it be Healesville Sanctuary? I believe it’s still operating.

I didn’t think it was quite as far as Healesville. But it might have been. I was really sure it was in Buxton. Does anyone know if there was a ‘zoo’ in Buxton?

UPDATE 15/12: Northern Territory Health Minister Natasha Fyles yesterday (Tuesday) defended the government’s approach to the border, despite criticism about a lack of consultation. She said the government was now reconsidering the rule banning tourists from low-vaccination zones such as Uluru.

Virgin Australia just announced the major switch of their USA partner from Delta to United Airlines, especially possibly confirming speculation that their own withdrawal from Aus-USA routes may be permanent with the new UA deal (as UA covers more TransPacific routes from SYD and MEL than DL’s sole SYD-LAX route and has a similar sized domestic network to Virgin’s outgoing USA partner).

Poster Opinion: The loser however will be BNE/Qld though, UA and VA passengers will be sent via SYD or MEL to connect for the short term unless if Annastacia is wanting to ‘throw taxpayer money’ to subsidise UA coming to BNE, whilst good for ‘competition’ in Qld, would be pretty embarrassing for QLD with taxpayers having to pick up the tab for basically ‘leasing’ UA planes, instead of having UA come to BNE on its own decision and covering all of their operating costs.

From this poster’s POV: Just join Star Alliance already Virgin

Delta’s product and service especially is much much better however United’s network is much better on the other end.

However I don’t think USA travel will be booming for years yet.

I loved the VA/VX combo which I used on many JFK runs. Now Alaska has joined QF.

Good to have a Qantas flight back to continental Europe. No presence here since the aborted Frankfurt flights a few years back.
