Maybe dust off Wild Oats XI for trips between Sydney and Hobart? It’s done it enough times…
Going to Eden is another possibility; the port is big enough for fully fledged cruise ships. The trip would be significantly shorter than to Sydney and would support South Coast tourism too.
Jetstar operated it a decade ago, then Tiger did the route, then nothing for years, then Jetstar resumed again. When fuel rises it seems to get the chop so its clearly a very marginal route.
Megan Woods, the minister responsible for managed isolation and quarantine of returning New Zealanders, said that anyone who had already bought a ticket to fly back to New Zealand in the next three weeks would still be able to fly.
“However, Kiwis who did not already have tickets would not be able to book flights in the next three weeks,” Woods said.
“We won’t let our border facilities reach maximum capacity."
Woods said the facilities weren’t running out of space but incoming numbers did need to be managed.
There is no Australia-NZ travel bubble yet (and probably highly unlikely for some time), instead NZ is setting up a bubble with its sibling the Cook Islands.
And there may never be an Aus-NZ bubble if Australia doesn’t shift its approach to elimination instead of containment.
Hopefully the outbreaks in Melbourne and Sydney can be resolved and the governments can move to elimination (obviously that’s impossible if they can’t contain these outbreaks).
Not really an international destination from New Zealand mind you, even if it is technically an international flight. Surprised they didn’t open travel back up as soon as the rest of NZ was.
QANTAS’s last 747 will arrive in Brisbane this morning at appox 10:15am as part of its farewell tour. QF474 will then take off at approx 10:30 am for “farewell jumbo joy flight” across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
I was disappointed that the partnership between BP and Velocity ended at the start of the year. Apart from flying with Virgin, I always used BP to collect Velocity points.
I can’t justify paying the price that Qantas offers to become a Qantas Frequent Flyer member.
There have been a number of tourism ads on TV over the last few weeks - local areas (Gold Coast, Scenic Rim) plus a couple of intestate ones - SA for example; but tonight (at least in QLD) New Zealand was being advertised across multiple adverts.
