Qantas is set to sell its 30% stake in Jetstar Pacific giving full ownership to Vietnam Airlines.
Federal Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham addressed the National Press Club at lunchtime today, and said Australiaās borders could be closed to most overseas visitors for some time.
Not a surprise to anyone really.
Iām betting that international borders wonāt open up until mid next year, perhaps even later.
Iām just waiting for Queenslandās borders to open up, as soon as they do, my family will go up for a short little trip. Weāll be making the effort to spend our money at local establishments.
Iād just like them to make a firm decision as soon as possible - Iāve had a long planned trip overseas booked for late in the year - I donāt expect to go on it, but as they havenāt officially confirmed the borders wonāt be open by then - I canāt yet get refunds.
All the talk of āthere could be a bubbleā just adds uncertainty.
Hope they plan to extend JobKeeper for those industries that are heavily impacted by this decision. As someone who is employed in an industry directly impacted by the international travel ban Iād like to know if I should start looking for other work at this point or hold off.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk yesterday vowed to keep the border closed to Victoria and NSW, until the two states āget on top of their community transmissionā of COVID-19.
NSW has next to no community transmissions.
Iāve seen a few QLD cars here in Port Macquarie over the last couple of days. I felt like telling them to go home⦠ie. āyou donāt want us there, we donāt want you here eitherā.
Those QLD cars could be from Tugun or Coolangatta which are near the NSW border.
Though Port Macquarie is a LONG way down the NSW coast.
Itās not like theyāve only just gone across to Tweed Heads.
I think that is good. QLD and WA need to act soon and open the borders. It is becoming a bit ridiculous with how long they have the closed and making it sound Victoria and NSW havenāt got their states under control is an absolute joke and inaccurate statement.
Qantas and Jetstar have launched a massive sale in order to get more people flying again. Some Jetstar airfares are as low as $19 one-way.

We will know on who will own Virgin Australia on Tuesday week.
Wil be interesting to see if the change in owner results in a name change (from Virgin Australia) to something else or not.
I guess it depends on Richard Branson or has he pulled the pin too?
I think the name Virgin will be retained, as Richard Branson has said he will work with Bain Capital or Cyrus should either gains ownership.
