If you have time and not that much luggage - there’s a public bus that connects to Broadmeadows station to then transfer onto the train.

The first of Qantas’ A321XLR is on track for delivery in April 2025 and will sport the rego VH-OGA - a rego that was used on a B767 before it’s retirement from the fleet.

Ok thanks :+1:

No idea why they used the same seats as on the a220 when the the XLRs can go well into Asia?

NTL has a lot of growth potential.

Even though Newcastle is the 7th largest metro area and the 6th largest airport catchment area population (665,000) it is only the 13th busiest airport.

There are currently nonstop flights to Adelaide, Ballina, Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, Lord Howe Island, Sydney, Cairns, Melbourne, and Narribi, NSW.

I could see potentials to Townsville, Whitsundays, Sunshine Coast, Perth, Hobart, Auckland, Bali, Singapore, Fiji, Avalon etc.

Runway cam

So how are we doing live runway-cam? Here is the behind the scenes story. Make sure you join us for the landing of @Delta in #Brisbane from @flyLAXairport coming up soon.

It suffers from being too close to Sydney, too far north of Newcastle and from a lack of public transport to/from the airport.

Also that Newcastle itself isn’t really a tourist destination, but does have attractions nearby like Port Stephens and whale watching, and also the Hunter Valley vineyards.

I picked a suburb (new lambton) in the middle of Newcastle metro area.

NTL is a 30 minute drive and SYD is a 2 hour drive

Surely if there were better flight options people would prefer to drive 30 mins than 2 hours.

I don’t disagree, I’m just saying it’s just one reason why Newcastle Airport doesn’t have a lot of flight options.

Ironically NTL would probably be more successful if it was closer to Sydney, ie south of Newcastle and more accessible to the ~500k people who live on the Central Coast. As it is, for most people the ease of hopping on a relatively quick/cheap/easy/reliable train to SYD far outweighs any minor time saved by driving or catching a shuttle up to NTL (even as far north as Newcastle itself).

If they ever build HSR between Sydney and Newcastle then an extension to the northern side of Newcastle would be a very interesting prospect. Huge growth potential.

A HSR would make NTL Airport less appealing again.

I would love to see it, but doubt it’ll be up and running before I go on up to the spirit in the sky.

Too many reports, surveys, NIMBYs and not enough action.

It’s also come to my attention that Virgin Australia is once again partnered with Air New Zealand. Comes at a good time for me as i am planning to travel during the Easter/ANZAC Day period

Dreamworld in Queensland, Australia is ending human interaction with tigers at its Tiger Island attraction after a handler was bitten by a tiger in September 2023

Visitors will no longer be able to take photos or walk with tigers.

Fences and gates will be installed to allow tigers to move between Tiger Island and back-of-house areas without human contact.

The spokesperson said guests will continue seeing tigers on exhibit, and in time, will receive a re-imagined educational presentation at Tiger Island about the importance of tiger conservation.”

I go to Google flights.

Put London (all airports) then as destination put Europe

And dates
