Turkish Airlines’ first flight to Australia touched down in Melbourne last night.

Not quite direct just yet. It’s via Singapore initially. Once Turkish takes delivery of A350-1000’s then it can fly direct.

Sorry but pets are pets. Keep them in the belly of the plane. Couldn’t think of anything worse than being on a plane where an animal have done their business.

Clearly you are not an animal owner that doesn’t understand how stressful/traumatic it is for many animals to travel that way. Most people would only do that as a last resort.

If Virgin goes ahead with their proposal, the animals have to be in a carry case by their owners feet and there would be dedicated areas of the flights for the animals. So I’m not sure what the issue is. You are more likely to have a crying baby next to you or child that goes to the toilet in their nappy during a flight.

Also if you were a dog owner, you’d know that most dogs would not go to the toilet in a crate anyway. My dog slept in a crate for the first few months and from the day we got her, she would wake us up every night and cry if needed to go to the toilet because they do not want to go when in an enclosed space like that.

What about people allergic to pets?

You wouldn’t be sitting in that section of the plane…

Does anyone else look up things like distances to and geo co-ords of places they visit?

I kind of have an obsession with knowing exactly where I am. Maybe because it’s all numbers and i love numbers (eg i know all my bank details including card numbers off by heart).

Traditional owners have welcomed the decision announced by the West Australian government on Friday, which would see crossing through the falls phased out by March 2028.

To fill the gap, Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti said the government would work with tourism operators and traditional owners to develop “new tourism experiences” to showcase the site.

Under the new arrangement, the marine park’s largest licensed tour provider, Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures, will continue to travel through the gap until its licence expires in 2028.

All other licensed operators will stop passing through the falls by the end of 2026.

Are you a Pilot by any chance?

ummm, no

The 31 737-MAX aircraft that VA have on order have been delayed and will not arrive on time. Probably a good thing with the recent Boeing events.

Virgin are too heavily reliant on Boeing. They needed to go with Airbus. They also need to diversify their planes. Too reliant on single aisle one model.

I know this was their survival strategy but it’s seriously flawed. They’re never going to have an IPO as no one wants to buy shares in a dud of a company.

There are significant benefits to operating a consistent fleet (whether it be Boeing or Airbus or even someone else), one of the advantages that many Boeing customers were sold on with the MAX series of the 737 was that it required limited training and potentially no need for recertification of pilots. (We all know where that ended up though)

Diversifying the fleet isn’t a trivial task either.

Virgin’s issues aren’t their fleet - they need to improve their on-time performance and their service otherwise they’ll start losing more significant ground on Qantas Group and Rex

The fact Rex can basically take old Virgin planes and run a very well received service on them should show the planes themselves aren’t the problem.

Unless they would get significant operational savings from more efficiency from the Max (or neo variants of Airbus), cabin refreshes would be enough to make customers feel like they are in a modern aircraft.

Airbus just have too long of a backlog at this point for switching to be viable - and the very strong attention that Boeing is now getting will do a lot to make them safer, with enhanced preventative maintenance and more regulatory pressure in the US rather than just waiving it through for being home grown.

Virgin’s owners would likely prefer to take a discount for sticking with Boeing through the delays, than to switch up strategy.
