What a shit title. Nice work, ABC.
precisely…I liked it, people may not have liked it but at least they knew what it was.
the new title could be an incontinence product. boring .
Another twist to the renaming saga. The first episode of the show includes what would have been a “Title Drop” and it occurs as part of a major plot point reveal, so it is especially disappointing that it will be lost on an audience unaware of the former “Black B*tch” title.
Otherwise the show is bl*ddy br*lliant!
Rachel Griffiths did an interview with WorldScreen recently and revealed about the concept and why the ABC changed the title.
The trouble I see is that “Total Control” doesn’t seem to convey any information about what the program is about. It is so safe and generic it could be about toy railway enthusiasts and still make sense. If a change was needed it should have been to a stronger, more relevant title.
Agree with this. They should have brainstormed some ideas and maybe tested them out, rather than just gone with the one Rachel came up with.
What a brilliant end to the season. Wonder if it will get another season.
I sure hope it does!
They probably should whip out the old Motels song for the next season:
The line in the chorus “I’d sell my soul for total control” is particularly apt.
I think there are potentially some interesting places they could take the characters in another season.
Rachel Griffiths said in an interview that there is a three season storyline arc which they have outlined.
Maybe a hung parliament next season and then a Labor government the season after that? Or vice versa with a Liberal government again in season three.
Three AACTAs
ABC Director of Entertainment and Specialist Michael Carrington has told TV Tonight on the possibility of season 2:
It hasn’t been commissioned but they are in the writers room and they are developing season two. With a good wind, finding the right budget, I think that’s a no-brainer.
The drama was renewed for a second season at today’s ABC upfronts.
Total Control
SEASON 2, 6x60
In the first season of Total Control , Alex Irving (Deborah Mailman) engineered a remarkable coup, unseating the Prime Minister and the woman who betrayed her, Rachel Anderson (Rachel Griffiths). But now she faces the ultimate test in a democratic system: the nation is going to the polls and Alex will have to face the judgement of the people. Alex’s passionate determination to make things better for her people appears
doomed to failure. She turns her back on the entrenched ways of doing politics and declares she’ll stand for her home electorate as an Independent. As the pressure on Alex intensifies, she
will have to make a choice, between her own integrity and her increasingly desperate and dangerous ambition.
