Today

Coverage of disasters is usually extensively covered by Today whatever state they are in. All states are Australia.

Agreed. I’d sooner watch Dubai tourism stories than flood coverage from halfway across the country.

If it’s NSW or Qld yeah.

Is Today predominantly a tourism show?

No not at all, but I’d sooner watch Dubai tourism stories than flood coverage from halfway across the country, especially if they’re doing an OB.

I don’t think it works like that, they’d go where they are sent.

How do you suggest they cover the story for people in the affected areas and also please people in other states who don’t have an interest?

I don’t think there’s an answer.

The Today Show is a Breakfast Show not nightly news. Yes they provide us Breaking News and News Headlines. But it’s a Breakfast show where they provide us entertainment and engaging to the viewers. Just the same as Sunrise.
I think it’s great that they are showcasing Dubai to the viewers back in Aus.

If we recall during Alfred, Karl & Sarah were on the ground on the GC.
Seems odd that now that NSW is going through a truly horrendous flooding event with casualties, they’re jetting off to Dubai. Bit interesting to watch but let’s see how they go from Monday.

Can’t wait for the Daily Fail to make an article on our speculation/constructive criticism of Today! :stuck_out_tongue:

Pretty sure the Victorian floods were covered in 2022.

To be fair that seemed excessive and unnecessary.

Flooding events in Australia are nothing new and it already seems to be receding, it’s being covered currently across the day adequately, I don’t really see an issue with the trip as long as they continue to monitor things and provide coverage according - which I’m sure they will.

Whether the audience tunes in is a different story, but we already know how he audience generally speaking are not fans on OB’s. They gotta pay the bills somehow.

By having a mix of stories.
The hosts being on an OB don’t limit the ability to present coverage and have reporters on the ground.
Like they can walk and chew gum at the same time.

I don’t think anyone said anything about the whole 3.5 hours being just flood coverage.

Regardless of that point, I don’t think viewers care for OB’s. Doesn’t history show viewership drops each time they air outside the studio?

Unless the rain continues, it’ll be the aftermath of the worst of the floodinh. So I don’t think this is that bad.

But it’s a little like Scomo going to Hawaii when the fires were on.

An odd timezone to broadcast from too. It’ll be 11.30pm to 3am Dubai time. Sure they will be fine under lights etc. But wrapping up the show at 3am i don’t know how much interaction you’ll get from locals or tourists.

I’m sure they have accounted for this though.

If i recall Dubai was Sunrise’s first stop on their round the world trip.

ā€œAnd which viewer at home can afford $1000 a night to stay there. They are so out of touch.ā€ @Tvjunkie

ā€œWon’t be a good idea when you have a flooding disaster in Australia, but the hosts are reporting from overseas on a luxury trip. Are they going to be interviewing disaster victims from a luxurious $1000 a night hotel.ā€ @JBar

I’m guessing they hired @thewatcher1 from the Daily Mail

At least I’d wasn’t the daily fail

Can we just acknowledge how shocking the use of AI is here, would’ve been better off using some generic stock footage of Dubai instead of that, looks really cheap.
