I reckon they’ll be in Melbourne on Sunday, Friday week and next weekend, like last year (except obviously the Sunday).
Perth News on Today - at 7:30 am with Lara Vella.
Earlier, the 7:10 am weather report was tailored to Perth.
Wish they’d do that for Adelaide as well.
Did Lara Vella present the Perth news live via Sydney or was it prerecorded? (Edit: NVM was live)
Did she present at all in the regular program also?
So they aren’t using a Perth presenter… in Perth?
Ooh interesting.
What I saw was this inserted into the program at 7:30pm. Lara didn’t appear at any other point that I saw but I didn’t record before 7am. The news appeared to be live out of Sydney with live crosses to local reporters.
There was, as mentioned, a modified weather segment at 7:10 am plus one of the the coming up segments was modified for Perth.
I thought local Perth news stopped during The Today Show a while back. Has it just returned?
What started today’s discussion.
Interesting.
IMO Monday (D2) would be better, as might be more tuning-in (following Sunday - if any were caught off guard) and being the previous traditional start, as well as the start of a working week when there’s a larger news cycle, staff, programs, etc
5CM not national
Is Lara known by Perth audiences? Not familiar with her earlier career.
Am guessing the hashtag used here means she may have some connection.

I imagine you wouldnt be getting high profile Perth news presenters in at 3am-6am shift
It might have been because she studied at University of Notre Dame which has campus’s in Fremantle and Broome.
They wouldn’t need this shift if they used a Perth based presenter though. Considering Matt Tinney has forged ahead with Sunrise Perth it’s odd they haven’t done so.
Today isn’t broadcast live into Western Australia, only the news updates are. Also hasn’t stoped presenters such as Tim McMillan and Tracy Vo from presenting the bulletins in the past.
Interesting that they picked Lara as he Newsreader for Today Perth. Thought it would be Natalia or Tracy Vo getting the gig
It’s just odd that it’s not locally produced. They’ve got the presenters for it.
Perhaps they are waiting to see if it has an impact on the ratings for a few months, then bring in local team. Could also be cheaper to do it from Sydney.
