Today (2015-Sept 2020)

You’ve got to be kidding. This is beyond ridiculous.

I would’ve put Davina with Richard if they had to, then Jono could’ve done news.

Very strange pairing, obviously scrambling for presenters over the break.

Doesn’t leave the audience with much confidence about the new hosting team IMO.

The only way I can possibly justify it is they are keeping it purposely unsettled so Karl and Ally add some consistency and rhythm when they do begin. It might sound dumb but perhaps a case of not wanting any successful fill-in line-ups to do better than the incoming new team.

Let’s also not forget, they can’t use any of the old team or new team to fill in, which does leave them short on numbers. Perhaps a combo like Ally and Tom Steinfort were due to anchor over summer before the changes?

I’m sorry but that does sound dumb. You don’t chase away your viewers and hope to lure them back later.

What happens when someone in your new team has to take unforeseen leave of absence? Do you just get random fill-ins again? And do you have to say “Oh, don’t count those days in the ratings. It’s not our new team”?

It does sound dumb but I’ve seen it happen before at places I’ve worked (more in radio though to be fair). Purposely programme something mundane/beige in between as an almost palate cleanser between the old and new shows, so the new show seems a bit more fresh and exciting. Nine know they aren’t going to make any inroads in these few weeks anyway.

I imagine they’ll have a fill-in structure within the new team that probably doesn’t include Jonathan Uptin or many of the people they’ve used in recent weeks.

Jonathan Uptin looks very uncomfortable.

Is it because of Richard Wilkins? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

This is the problem with having a revolving door of hosts.

It’s a shame they don’t use some of the weekend team over summer- David, Jayne, Tim Davies, Julie Snook. Even involve Brenton Ragless and Natalia Cooper. Part of the problem is that Alex has been swapping between sport and hosting all summer.

I’m afraid that they aren’t even that organised to arrange that. This is scrambling.

As I’ve said before, Today drives away any of their viewers that still watch over summer and any viewers that sample the show by having an unfamiliar, inconsistent and frankly incompetent team. Perhaps this is why their new team launches get weaker and weaker each year. There has been a lot of odd summer line-ups on the show, but this has to be the worst.

Then why do they bring the new team debut forward by a week every year?

By these weeks I mean, Christmas and NY. Most people aren’t in their usual routines of going to work etc and they aren’t turning on the TV at usual times. The TV might go on at 8:30am as you’re making breakfast rather then 6:30am as you’re scrambling to get into the office by 7:45am. By the 6th it is beginning to get back to normal.

Someone is forgetting the Garry Lyon, Wilkins (I think) and Ghidella summer.

Agree. This week most people are not in their usual routine.

Promo with Karl and Ally on the set just aired during Today. This is the first time?

Just watched Jonathan’s interview with Scott Morrison. Johnston looked uncomfortable, but my problem was with the PM. What an embarrassing, smirking, hopeless excuse for a leader. He makes Abbott and co look good. Can’t believe the dumb arse public voted for him. But then again, MAFS is the No 1 show on Aussie tv, so that says something.
I know this all has got nothing to do with Today, but I just had to comment.

And Dickie mention that Stevie was his last story of 2019. He acknowledged Stevie just before they went to break. Stevie’s last segment of 2019 was asking the kids what was Christmas about

I thought it was Gary Lyon, Michael Usher and Leila McKinnon.

Anyone got caps?

Ah that’s it. Usher was there but I thought Ghidella was too…

I think he has a real problem with the smirking. Even when he was supposed to be serious during his press conference yesterday, he couldn’t help but smirk at the most inappropriate times.

Interesting that the top trending hashtag in Australia right now is: #ScoMoResign

So Alex Cullen- sports guy this week- is doing a story about home renovation. I’m confused!

Nothing to flash, but does a decent job at conveying the message, still, the only signs at a graphics refresh is the graphics at the very end. A little off topic, how old and yuck does that glossy 9 logo look?
