Today (2015-Sept 2020)

It was a complete attack on all 3 of them.

Obviously we don’t know what lead to it but it’s in their best interest to remove him immediately.

They can’t afford more toxicity and losing even more viewers.

I don’t think Tim would go back, he seems happy at Sky.

Maybe the Karl and Ali L show? :joy:

They should try and poach some seven talent that got screwed over by Sunday Night. Then they would gain more eyes from fans of opposition network.

He was on Nine’s 2GB tonight, so no hard feelings there, both ways.

@blackbox

Rob, why not local “Today in Sydney” and “Today in SE QLD” Editions 5.30-7

Then your beefed up today 7-9

USA Canada spain Germany Austria - markets way way way smaller than say Adelaide manage to do local news in the AM

Why not local 15 minutes news weather traffic wheel hyper local 530-7 as a real point of difference

If the economics are there in Perth for 2 shows, I can’t see how it can’t be done in larger markets

And let’s be honest Perth sunrise - today is not about showing updated live current east coast news - it’s about showing local Perth news that a national show won’t cover

NYC, london, LA, Vancouver. Barcelona. Small Austrian markets, they all have local news in the AM. I think it’s time today did it - a real point of difference

There are markets in Canada snalller than Adelaide that do 2 3 hour local morning shows and make money

Surely 5 markets all bigger can manage a 90 minute rolling news’s a day?

Today will start at 6am tomorrow.

I don’t see nine giving him the 6pm gig in Melbourne anytime soon.

I certainly hope Alicia Loxley replaces Hitch when he eventually retires.
Jones should be dumped immediately after basically speaking down to the co-hosts this morning.

I like it but money is the big problem.

People think networks are willing to spend more money for little return. The fact is, with advertising dollars shrinking in television, we are more likely to see more national programs in the future, rather than more local programming.

one thing i havent seen since im living in ballarat is that sunrise or today dont have a local melbourne news update like they do for perth etc

You’re right on the money

TV host Karl Stefanovic will wake up with Today in 2020—alongside Allison Langdon.

Nine newspapers confirmed Stefanovic is heading back to the ailing Channel 9 breakfast show, with Georgie Gardner set to depart and Weekend Today host Alli Langdon to co-host.

Daily Telegraph has updated one of their earlier stories with these lines. Can’t see anything on the SMH or The Age sites yet so the story must be appearing in early print editions of the newspaper.

The Australian now also confirming:

So no mention of Deb.
Surely they’ll keep her and put her on news.

This is one of the biggest backflips I can think off in Aussie TV. Like Charlie Gibson returning to GMA in the late nineties.
But, A FORMAT CHANGE IS NEEDED IF THEY WANT THE RATINGS TO IMPROVE.

Annette Sharp claiming the exclusive.

The Sunday Telegraph, 20 October 2019:

TBH, this is very interesting to announce the co-hosts of Today. Normally they would announce it in December or early January

Ali is good but Alicia Loxley would be a better pairing with Karl.

Why is Sharp claiming the exclusive when it was clear something was amiss and Langdon’s ascension was looking likely four days earlier when she presented the news segment at Nine’s Upfronts?

Plenty of speculation that a change was in the wind that day. Even I commented on it:

I would say Nine was waiting until December, but seeing as the cat is out of the bag, they may as well announce it on their own terms this weekend.

Others have since claimed exclusives too.

Pity Bec Maddern was not Sydney based. Underused.

Would bounce well of him. Maybe an option for News.
