Today (2015-Sept 2020)

Have to hope that Sunday’s ratings are not a reflection on the promo - 80,000 behind Sunrise and second worse Sunday number this year. Have to wonder who or what fed into this result.

When I saw the Weekend Today promo over the weekend. I was thinking about the Georgie & Karl promo that they made last January (2018). Was that where they got the idea from

A bit left off field but I reckon Georgie should return back to narrating MAFS to entice more viewers to tune in to The Today show

I don’t see that making any difference whatsoever.

And why is that? It can be promoted as such although obviously they attract very different audiences. If Barry The Insiders was enticed to narrate Roxy, why can’t Georgie? I don’t think it will diminish her credibility as a journalist.

I do.

If MAFS killing it in prime time, or the Ashes for that matter, didn’t help TODAYS ratings. A GG voice over probably won’t help either.

If anything, Today needs to be more closely alligning itself with the main Nine News brand (especially in Sydney where Deborah Knight is - for now at least - their 2nd in-line presenter) rather than garbage like MAFS.

This was reported in the “Daily Telegraph” about the Today Show using 17 year old footage in their coverage of Sydney’s wet weather this morning.

Tell tale signs include the 2002/03 Holden Commodore VY series police car and fuel at 84.9 cents a litre.

It’s not really wrong, just lazy on Nine’s part.

Soon to be renamed The Yesterday Show.

Everyone has file vision for these occasions. Maybe the editor just dug back a bit far, but hardly worth a report. It’s also now on news.com.au.

I agree not a huge deal - but perception is everything. Doesnt really show that they will go the extra mile to bring a breaking, current, relevant story to their viewers.

I don’t see it being an overly big deal as the strap text did read, Set for soaking, so of course they’re going to refer to some previous rain footage.

This is why broadcasters to try keep stock footage as news as possible maybe once every year update all the essentials reporters reuse in stories. Nothing worse than see library pictures where the quality is piss poor and clearly so out of date.

17 years is a bit old.

I mean, whenever they are out doing a report for something else, why not once every few months spend an extra 5 mins filming some more stock vision for use in such reports in the near future.

At the very least, you’d expect any news file footage used on-air these days (unless you need something specifically from an earlier period of time, such as a look back at an older story/event, of course) to be post-2010!

All seems rather dodgy

Nine spokesperson says “We used file vision of rain falling in Sydney as the rain hadn’t hit yet"

So, it wasn’t raining, yet they showed footage of heavy rain

And surely there had been some rain in Sydney at another time in the last 17 years.

Last I checked, Sydney has had a number of major rain events over the past 17 years - most notably during the 2007-13 time period although there’s been other more recent ones such as June 2016 and March 2017.

You’d think there’d still be footage of all those in the Nine News archives…

I think just fire the sub-editor, easy. There shouldn’t be any room for errors, anyone is easily replaceable.
