Tipping Point

Also be interesting to see how they integrate the in-program news update close to the end of the show - I imagine this’ll take place during the Jackpot Temptation round when the contestant has to make a decision as to whether to take it or not.

I think swapping them around is the right move for Perth though. A double header would have been overkill.

So far so good, tightly produced, vibrant, fresh and engaging set-design, Woodbridge is actually rather good and seems a natural (unless they’ve used a deeper filmed episode or had a lot of rehearsals/re-takes) and good chemistry with the contestants.

I reckon tonight’s heavily promoted during the tennis official launch ep should do well, especially east coast and key demos and I realised Chase Au is now over 8 years old, so nice and refreshing for 5pm in that sense too.

Some tennis terminology being used on today’s (official) premiere episode!

The look of the show is good, but I honestly believe it is overproduced. The titlevards for each round seem a bit unnecessary, and the obviously edited discussion as the counter is in the machine feels really unnatural.

The other thing I find annoying that a lot of Australian shows do with foreign formats is they have moved too far away from the original. What has made The Chase the success it has since its launch (at least until tonight) is that it is faithful to the UK game with the Aussie flavour coming through the talent and contestants.

Less fluffy stuff and crowd interaction. Cut the forced awkward scripted jokes. I’m not interested in contestants talking to friends or whoever in the crowd.

I love the UK version, and the chase also, simply as the hosts know how to drive it.

Not going to wreck the ending but it was interesting

This is turning out to be a cliffhanger!

How to spoil a good show? Let 9 get hold of it! What an abomination this is! First watch, last watch. The host is awful, the production is awful. This is not Tipping Point.

Not to mention the contestant winning the Jackpot on the first show. What a setup, I’m sure this wasn’t the first show recorded.

The staff at the arcade often say this to me as I scream at the coin machine.

Yes i highly doubt episodes are screened in the order they were recorded.

I thought it was okay, whilst I think I prefer Hot Seat at this stage, but I’m prepared to give it time.

I understand that but this was a setup!

Rigged ya reckon?

Summary

How come the final question wasn’t asked so the 2x could have dropped? Is the game just over if the jackpot coin falls?

Please excuse my bad attempt at trying to create a spoiler blur :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

IMO, networks always want to screen the “big wins” at the start of the week, so as to provide the strongest possible lead-in to the first weekday of the news week.

I noticed in Hot Seat that the Million Dollar Question episodes were always screened on Mondays, though for Antony McManus’s win in November 2021, it was screened as a special prime-time episode prior to the ITV drama “Quiz” (which depicted the infamous Charles Ingram cheating saga of 2001) airing on Channel Nine, while for the first such question under the Hot Seat format it screened as a one-off prime-time episode on a Monday night in 2009, after which the contestant was visited by Eddie at his house after the taped episode.

Correct - it is game over once the jackpot falls. If not, that’s when the Jackpot Temptation comes into play.

To be fair, Todd Woodbridge is only new to the game show hosting caper; give it some time and he will improve.

Just like when Cornelia Frances was inexperienced, but still the most perfect host, for Weakest Link when Seven commissioned that show in 2001.

Yes, it’s a bit of a flaw that to win a higher prize you basically have to lose the final round.

And of course when you pre-record multiple eps that don’t have carry over players from one show to the next you will air them in an order that works for broadcast, and probably best to start with the shows where Todd has got a grasp on what he is doing early on rather than his nervous first few records, which can be inserted later.

I swear in the UK you could pretty much guarantee they’d end the week on Tipping Point with a winner.

He’s a tennis commentator and pretty good at his job but not a game show host. Couldn’t 9 find someone who knows how to host shows like this? David Campbell maybe?
