Seven managed a narrow Thursday win, its first for the week, but down +2 points on last Thursday. While Nine was steady, 10 improved to a five-week Thursday high. ABC was steady with SBS higher.

The NRL from Australia stadium saw a win for the Rabbitohs against the Panthers averaging 650k, down 70k from last week but for the second consecutive week ahead of the AFL.

Thursday Night AFL saw Essendon’s defeat Port Adelaide with a last-quarter comeback to average 561k, that was 100k lower than last week’s game.

By comparison, on 28 March 2024 (Easter Thursday) AFL rated 665k and NRL 569k.

Meanwhile. Gogglebox was back on Thursday for 10, topping 600k and up 20k on the previous Thursday episode and up 120k on last Wednesday’s edition.

Season 4 of Taskmaster then got underway on 10’s Googlemaster night with 402k. That compares to the previous season that premiered to 409k.

The Opposition response to the Federal Budget was at 7.30 and 7.30 was at 8pm. The Budget reply managed 533k, just outside the top ten and, ahead of an election, up from 477k in 2024. 7.30 that followed was down +200k on the previous week. Then Grand Designs: 25 Years And Counting averaged 312k.

Seven’s alternative program Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly was steady on 315k but Britain’s Got Talent slipped by 35k to just make the top 30.

At 6pm the news battle narrowed to a 13k margin with Seven just ahead while Tipping Point opened up a 168k margin to The Chase.

Inconsistent from Seven. AFL is number one in REACH only while Seven News is only number one in AVERAGE with Nine ahead in reach. Two quite different measures.

Extraordinary to see 9 news Perth so close to overtaking 7 news Perth! That is a crisis for 7 if they start winning.

The massive switch over to Nine News continues especially in Adelaide and Perth. Is it possible that Nine could win one night in Perth, just 4,000 behind? Also a poor result for Seven News in Sydney.

Very poor week for The Chase to be 168,000 behind in the metro markets.

Also one of Today’s lowest rating of the year.

Seven finished third in Sydney for the second consecutive night.

Note NRL numbers in 3 markets too far down the rankings to show up in the reports received.

I flicked between both. Chase was a not-very-interesting repeat from last year (why!?) with one player in the final chase for $4000. Tipping Point was a new episode where someone gambled for $100,000 and very nearly won it.

Whilst the lead-in is obviously helping, what else has caused Perth to tighten up? Are Rick and Sue still reading?

4k between Seven and Nine News in Perth, wow!!
Very heated battle and an interesting rest of the year ahead.

Crazy about Nine News Perth. Why the sudden switch?

Also interesting to see the NRL outrate the AFL in the 5 caps. Seems to be a trend so far this year?

You mean, it had a higher average?

I am guessing there has been migration to kayo for the AFL given it has its own far superior production now.

I can tell you that I’ve never had a problem with Seven’s coverage or commentary, and I prefer it to Fox. But even I watch AFL games on Fox now solely because of the lack of commercial breaks.

Nine News Metro is up generally this year and is now consistently number one. All markets show a significant increase. The Chase ratings have dived and Tipping Point tends to win every market providing a good lead in. Perth is following that trend and has been closing in since the introduction of Tipping Point. Nine’s prime time is also winning in Perth on many nights ATM thanks to Married AFS so more eyes on Nine News promos. Also worth noting that 10 News is up at 5pm that may be taking viewers away from The Chase (not Tipping Point).

Thursday in particular could also have been impacted by Seven viewers watching AFL on 7Mate.

Well, I’ve gone from watching in on 7 to avoid broken streams etc to watching it on kayo to avoid BT et al

It hasn’t been sudden. This momentum has slowly been happening for two years now.

Tipping Point and the new afternoon line have assisted in the last 12 months but the constancy and reputation of 9 News Perth has to be applauded here.

Also, Seven’s Anthony De Ceglie has a lot to blame. I’m wondering how much longer Seven will continue with his contract.
